Someone post an "Entertainment Hardware" thread, please! Including TVs, DVD Players, Speakers and all that kinda stuff. Raoul, you could merge the DVD Player thread into it too... you know, for orginisation and stuff!

<This was originally two posts; I got trigger-happy. Sorry, Icebear...>
I'm curious as to the availability and pricing of camcorders. I'm close to due for a new one, probably in the $300 price range here in America, and was wondering if the selection and pricing are comparable in China (especially Shenzhen). I imagine it isn't hard to track down most models in the bigger cities, so my primary concern is pricing differences (I'm not sure if these are made mostly in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or China...). It'd be nice to save some size and weight for the flight over, as my current camcorder is 5 years old and relatively large compared to these modern micromachines.
Edit: Also, anyone know what the video format standard is in Asia, NTSC or PAL? I'm not sure if this even matters on the modern devices that record in digital...
Hmmmm... given the short notice I think I'll probably just bring the old one with me. I'd hate to be stuck without a camera for an extended period of time. Not that I use it frequently, probably once or twice a month, but on those days that the skate-posse is feeling motivated I'd hate to be without it. I'll keep the upgrade in mind whenever I have a chance to do some tourism in Hong Kong.

I started a thread on Camcorders/Video Equipment and moved all the answers/discussion there. Hoping to keep this place sorta kinda organized...
Ob, I understand your request...I'll leave it to you guys to start the threads unless I have a review of my own. I can't win things like this...if I separate them all, I'll get requests to move them all together because they're all related. If I put them all together, I'll have people pounding me because they have to wade through a bunch of nonsense about DVD players and speakers when all they want is info on TVs. So go for it.
Personally I prefer separated...easier to find exactly what you want quickly. But there's no reason why we couldn't have, say, a "DVD Players" thread AND a "Complete Entertainment Systems" thread...

I bought an ASUS, had it a year and so far, crossing fingers and touching wood no problems. It has an international warranty which was one thing I was looking for. Have fun shopping for one, so much choice available.
