Hi all, I haven't been around much 'cause I've been ferociously busy with my new project(s), which will be launching very soon now. I recently moved to the suburbs and made a strange discovery... take a look for yourself: www.iec-edu.org/disgraceland/disgraceland.html

surprisingly clean for being out-of-business...and well manicured landscaping too...weird...but to quote Nobby...strangely 'appealing'...

Okay Saloonies. Here's our chance. Let's buy it and turn it into a summer camp. During Semester we'll lease it out to Kid's Castle.

The Huamei school in Hanzhou was built over the failed amusement park 'Americaland' featuring the White House, Mount Rushmore, the Washington Monument, etc. The teacher apartments were located in 'Americatown' which really did look like a small American cityfront. Every morning annoying Chinapop music would blare out of the Seattle space needle.

Hey, Motis, okay to send the link around? Sure... in fact, I'd really love to see that site get some high traffic. If you know of a place to send the link that might get lots of eyeballs on Disgraceland, please do.

Good, 'cuz I already posted it at Zefrank. I know a couple of...
-hey, is there a term for folks who have giant address books, and always find and send around loads of stuff? You'd think there'd be a word for them.
Anyway, I'll deluge my contacts. It should spread pretty quickly- damn funny.

I was privileged to see the Disgraceland series a few weeks ago. Absolutely amazing stuff! Welcome back, Motis...

Motis, remember saying "it's more interesting than it ever could been been while it was open"? I agree emphatically. As i knocked through all your photos, I pictured sitting in an electric cart with a bunch of other tourists, snapping photos and laughing as you gave the tour, talking through a bullhorn.
Disgraceland: the Ghost Theme Park. get a chinese funny guy for the locals, you for the foreigners: might be a side business.

I just took the 'tour'. Great pics and hilarious comments. I remember reading about this place in one of the text books here. Except no one told me it was closed.
Does anyone know when it was built? closed?
For summer camp - I have dibs on teaching my kids under the Banyan trees. Either that or under dry Niagara Falls.

That's wrong on so many levels that I'd have to be a Zen master to count them all.

none? seriously, it would make a great paintball feild. That indeed would be true. What I was referring to was the fact that they had planned to entertain people with concrete trees. That's wrong. Maybe we could invite the dance school students to play.

Hey Motis, do you still have this website lying around somewhere? I thought this was truly one of the best photothreads the Saloon, nay, the world, has seen.

Sooo bizarre! And damn, 10 Chinese students to a dorm room? No wonder us Western Devils are so appealing to them, what with our single size beds all to ourselves! Kings among men.
