Talking about the verb, fart. I don't teach that , it would only encourage them. I have started teaching students the word piss, it's shown up in 2 of my resource books, so it must be OK then. Why is it a mildly naughty word they pick up on, They use the correct tense and everything. If you ever come across some Chinese people saying piss off, I am going for a piss, I was pissed last night, god, I am so pissed. off. They are mine

I do feel a bit naughty when my Chinese friend very dainty, shy innocent looking says "excuse me Carol, I am just going to take a piss" I might add a disclaimer to these lessons

Back to the topic - I've been teaching in a senior middle school for 1 1/2 years now. This is my only China experience so I really can't say how it compares with other teaching situations. I teach 3 classes twice a week each. That's SIX 45 minute lessons a week. I'm living on easy street and I know it. The school does not monitor my lessons. I've been free to teach what I want, but try to do as Woza said and add to what they are learning from their text books. My hubby and I bought a laptop and projector (no such thing as internet in our classrooms) and try to do one lesson a week with flashy videos. I'm quite proud of some of the lessons we have created. For example, a recent unit was on the USA and we were able to show pictures for everything mentioned in their text. Not sure if it adds to the learning English experience, but we try.
Our class sizes are 65-80. There are some really keen kids who sit up front and give lots of positive feedback through their eager faces and willingness to participate. They (mostly) make up for the guys in the back who sleep, read comics, or talk.
I like it here. Hope they keep us around for awhile. Not sure if this helps you in your decision, Burl, but it's been great for Crippler and me.
