Since Hotmail isn't always reliable, I signed up for a Gmail account a year or so ago. I love it. I use the Picasa2 photo program and with this the Hello! program to share photo's. I received over 500 photo's in a matter of minutes last week! The Gtalk (Google Talk) was new and for a while only had chat and voice call options. Now, they have voice mail!!!!
And now I got a song by Lifehouse stuck in my head.

They're coming for you George!!! English-language circuit in Asia begs for teachers, little screening Canadian Press
Sunday, August 20, 2006
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - The English-teaching circuit in Asia is filled with transient foreigners, from backpackers needing to make quick cash to recent college graduates looking for experience.
Turnover is high and screening is minimal, opening windows for people with phoney credentials, or even those suspended from teaching at home - like John Mark Karr, the man who said he was with JonBenet Ramsey the night she was killed in her family's basement 10 years ago in Colorado.
Karr taught for a few months in South Korea in 2002, in Honduras last year and at schools in Bangkok this year before his arrest. An online resume said he also worked as a private teacher and caregiver in Germany, the Netherlands and Costa Rica during the last five years.
Yet in April 2001, he had been arrested in California for possession of child pornography. He vanished after serving six months in jail and his teaching licence was suspended a year later.
Schools said there is no easy means of checking up on foreigners applying for jobs.
"A telephone interview, a resume and a picture of the candidate is all we have," said Kim Soo-ho, an official at Englishwork, a teacher-recruiting agency in Seoul, South Korea.
"It is physically difficult to check the background of people when they are from overseas."
Convicted sex offenders from various countries have popped up as English teachers in Asia.
Earlier this month, an Australian who taught English in Jakarta, Indonesia, was charged with molesting street children. He told police he videotaped at least 50 teenaged boys.
Another Australian teacher who faced sex allegations at home committed suicide last week in Indonesia, where he also was accused by human right activists of abusing children.
"It's a very traditional pedophile strategy," said Bernadette McMenamin, head of the Australian-based advocacy group Child Wise.
"If you want to sexually abuse children, what better job would there be?"
She said foreign teachers with criminal histories can easily stay beneath the radar because background information is not readily shared among countries, making the screening process difficult for even the most prestigious institutions. Karr taught Grade 1 for two weeks in June at one of Bangkok's finest schools before he was fired for being too strict.
"People who are offenders of all sorts are being able to move anonymously across borders," said Carmen Madrinan, executive director of Bangkok-based ECPAT International, a network of organizations working to fight commercial sexual exploitation of children.
She said the demand for English skills in Asia, especially in countries like Thailand where tourism drives the economy, puts pressure on schools to fill job vacancies quickly. But she said administrators are stuck because there is no easy way to verify credentials or check for criminal records.
Fake teaching documents also are cheap and easy to obtain in Asia, and there are jobs for the taking. Last year in Japan, there were 4,500 foreign language schools with nearly 14,000 teachers. South Korea had 12,000 native English-speakers teaching at private schools as of May.
Websites post openings at schools across Asia, making it easy for teachers to work short stints in one country before lining up a job and jumping to another, providing perfect cover for sex offenders on the run in a region infamous for sex tourism.
Education officials in Thailand have told local news media they will work with schools and police to tighten screening procedures. But Madrinan said even in the United States, where many safeguards are in place, sexual predators sometimes slip through the cracks.
"It's a complicated issue," she said.
"But when you are talking about a cross-jurisdiction and you have repeated offenders or you have offenders who are of a serious nature of crime, then you have to ask: 'Should they be allowed to leave in the first place?"'

Quake hits Antarctic, penguins affected
August 20, 2006 - 3:54PM
A powerful earthquake struck Antarctic waters on Sunday but its remote location meant the tremor was only likely to have frightened a few penguins, a seismologist says.

Okay, so my coffee cup is empty and I find myself running around cyberspace (no, not in the nude) trying to pretend that I am doing something useful. So far, so good. Mike Weir is in third place so far in the PGA championship. CFL football results are interesting. Nothing worth reading at China Daily newspaper. Only a few hours to kill before I assault a golf ball before heading out for a "last supper" at a new restaurant.

Hmmn? Thailand, eh?

I was playing Super Mario this morning on the computer (never got to play it when it first came out and making up for it now) and then I saw "Cartman's Authoritah" which is fun! Cartman goes around with his police stick beating people (Kenny) and things up (Mr. Hanky, 6 ass monkey, turkey's) until he gets his rifle and then a flame thrower and then a g launcher.
Its fun!!! and instead of collecting coins he collects Cheesy Poofs!!

There is a computer on site in the office with internet access, printer and photocopier. They are either teaching or drinking beer and bitching about me. The bitching takes up too much time to post on the saloon. I think the boss is counting the empties. He hasn't said anything. If he does I will explain they need it. If we cut off the supply they will get DTs. Old news, this, but I'm still catching up from my forced holiday away from internet use and feel the need to clarify. There WAS a (one - that is 1) computer in the English Office on site. It was hooked up to the internet and allegedly for our use. First time I went to use it the Boss was on it, so I kept on going. Snuck in a half hour one day when we got back early from swimming. I made two more attempts to keep in touch with the world and the Boss was on it both times so I quit trying. Another time one of the TAs was on - the one related to someone higher up in camp. Wasn't worth my energy to kick him off - and I'm too polite to do that anyway. I did kick some game-playing kids off one day and got in another half hour to check personal emails, but then another teacher came along and wanted to do the same thing, so I vacated the chair. There were no internet bars near camp, it being a rich area where everyone has their own home computer. I did make use of a computer in the head office one Sunday while my friends were otherwise occupied. It was a long dry spell and I'm glad to be back home where I have a chance to get my daily fix of this place.
