What I'm wondering is when Chinese are going to admit the truth! 7 out of 10 is a really big number, but I'd believe every word, despite all the restrictions placed on students nowadays.

My girlfriend tells me her university advertises "special operations" for girls that make them appear to be virgins after the deed has been done. I'll save the gory details, but suffice to say, why would such a thing be advertised if no one needed it.

And why are abortion rates so high in China? For crying out loud, why can't people just admit that they had sex and move on with life? Why do people have to abort a child just to save face.

Weird as it may sound...I'm starting to think China may have a sexual revolution someday...

It is more than just saving face. Firstly they are not married, and therefore have no hukou for the child - and have to go through a fair bit of admin hassle to get one. No hukou causes endless drama for the future.

Legal marriage age for people in China is (I think) 20 for women and 21/22 for men. This country is trying to decrease it's population growth rate. So just having the baby creates a fair amount of hassle and drama.

In attitude it is more like the early-late 60's - everybody was doing it but no-one admitted it - my parents would have been horrified, and only a few people were brave enough to "live in sin" in small areas.

But times are definitely changing. There are condom vending machines on the wall OUTSIDE the campus.
