I dunno...never tempted to venture inside one in the States, but I went to the one in Beijing semi-often. After a few years in China, regardless of labelling a decent burger and a salad with blue cheese dressing become a fine thing, indeed.

Just on a sidenote, there's a fairly decent Diner here in Qingdao.
Bottomless coffee (and soft drinks), 24 hour breakfast (between open hours 0800 - 0100) , cheeseburgers, pancakes, french toast, steaks, eggs, and whatever else is in there. Tested by a couple of Americans I know and said to be quite sound so...
It looks like it's somewhat successful. Of course, it's actually run by a Japanese dude. So you can order miso soup with your steak if you're so inclined. I prefer to stick to the pancakes with butter, maple syrup, and a tall glass of orange juice.
PS. Maybe you can come over next May. Sorry about not making it to the shindig Raoul! Am actually in Australia for a bit during the break so I couldn't make it! Write all about it and put some pics up for the rest of us!

Let's cease this petty bickering chaps. Oz and the US were both begun as Brit. colonies, dispossessed the indigines as soon as possible, and then relied on migration to provide their "culture". Both have dopey leaders who are also bedfellows, with George on top. We just spent a few days eating our way through Chinatown in Melbourne, and my wife, discerning Chinese eater that she is, gave the place a thumbs up, which goes to show that Chinese food OS CAN be OK. The only great Aussie dish is a kangaroo fillet steak. Now that's good eating! I must admit we do the best fish and chips I've encountered, but cooked by Greeks. And great pizza cooked by Italians. The McD's and KFC are "prepared" by pimply adolescents in both countries. George and Hamish's ancestors probably shared the same bog in County Cork, and squabbled over who grew the best crappy potatoes. Enough. If you need excitement, try drug running out of Bali.

My grandfather used to talk about a kid he called “Georgie” whom he said was abandoned in our farm’s pigsty by a roaming flop jockey. Any relation? Gonzo, educated and sophisticated gentleman that you are, I thought you were too smart to step into a fight between two Scots. We will pummel each other until we can gang up on some other dunder head who makes the mistake of thinking we can addressed sensibly. Then, the interloper being dispatched in a cloud of misaimed blows and haggis farts, will reengage each other in a harmless faux battle that keeps us warm, and gives us a manly feeling.

Yeah, it was my ancestors that came from a bog in country Cork, or rather country Ulster.
Except for the ancestors who came from a bog in the Midlands, and the other bunch that came from a mose (bog) in Denmark.
Golf courses? Are we aluding to the fiction that Scots invented golf? The Irish invented it, just like bagpipes, but were too smart, and gave them both away for the recipe for porridge. Which they promptly forgot. Hence the move to potatoes, with the disastrous consequences of thousands of Irish moving overseas when the Keeper of Recipes lost the recipe for boiled potatoes, the true reason for the famine.
Ah, my poor great great great uncle Patrick. Who would have thought, that fateful day, when he used a scrap of paper to start his poteen still that it was the last existing copy.
