Meanwhile, here in southern Australia, I'm breathing out white clouds as I type. And no, I'm not smoking.

Someone told me that too. Mid-Autumn festival is on September the 18th this year - earlier than usual? I saw a bloke at the bus-stop with a big box of moon cakes yesterday.

Like most lunar-based calendar things, they have little to do with reality. Seasons follow the sun not the moon.
Tha'ts why Pope Gregory was so clever. His calender was not only more accurate, it stays accurate. It even has an extra day built in somewhere every few centuries for the other bit that is left over the normal year. (I mean on top of the leap year)

You know I've been thinkin' that damn Mid-Autumn festival has got to rank right up there with the entertainment value of having a bad case of rectal itch. It's boring as poo. I mean, goddamn, how m'kaying many damn moon cakes can you eat before you keep hearing about what a great damn holiday it is? Anyway, it's a great time to get a piece of ass if you're not stuff with those damn moon cakes and the heat's not too grueling. Pope Gregory.........I bet he was catholic? Probably Canadian too..............

God, what a day! The mild respite from summer is definitely over. This weekend's gonna be hell.

Yeah, I think the Pope was Catholic at the time, and not a Nazi. He was also intelligent, educated, and somewhat scientific, also not the current norm. There were some odd things about him, I seem to remember, but I cannot recall exactly what they were. Maybe had a lover? Doesn't sound quite right. Maybe I should google.
Nah.

That sounds like it.
Forgot about Gregorian Chants. Most boring music invented, except for rap. And sixties whining folk music. Or pop. And most jazz. Oh, forgot classical. Current heavy metal, they are the most boring too.

hymns make me go to sleep, too. OK, I only like music I like, the rest I don't like. About half of what I dont like I find boring, the other half annoys me.
How's that?

Gregorian chant creeps some people out, but I find it deeply soothing.
I brought a whole mess of Hip hop/rap with me for the hell of it. Some I actually like. Most of it's childish, though.

I've got some Buddhist chants...quite relaxing, really. And some Gregorian stuff is soothing. You're right, Con.

Friends own a 'New Age" shop and refuse to play Gregorian chants as background music. This came about because if they played it people came in started looking at books etc, then got caught up in the music, went into a trance and then after 5 minutes walked out not having bought anything!
Much more profitable to play other relaxing music.

Western music evolved from the Gregorian chant. It's the foundation for everthing that came after.

We had to begin somewhere. I send that message with a bouquet of flowers to my father's last resting place every year.
He was a great man. I love him senseless.
He was still evolving. That's all.

I'm grateful for every mild day. Hope Suzhou goes easy on me.
Say, is there a good china for China weather? If so, the 8L Room needs a new link.

Nanning is better than HK or GZ in my limited experience.
