Phyllis, thanks for the great description. Now I want to go there.
JJL, if you have an influx of visitors you can blame Phyllis - and you aren't even there yet. Have you got your visa yet? I'm curious to know how getting one in Canada compares with getting one in the States.

Hi Ruth,
Yes, I got the visa. It was pretty easy going. I waited in line for about 15 minutes (in Toronto), handed in my application, and the Chinese government forms and left. I was going to get a rush, but it cost $50.00, and they told me if I didn't get a rush it would be ready in 3 days. So I said okay and waited in Toronto at friends. Went back 3 days later and it was ready. It cost $50.00, which was a surprise, I thought I might have to pay 150.00. As far as I know, with the Z Visa (a sticker in my passport), I do not need a multiple entry. The visa is good for multiple entries.
I got it on Friday, and am now waiting for the travel agencies to open tomorrow, today was a holiday (labour day). So I will take whatever will get me there the quickest. I will end up being a few days late, but, since they sent the paperwork late, they don't seem to mind.

Our latest Z visa is a multiple entry. That changed sometime last year. Yippee. Makes traveling a lot easier.
So, what's the update on travel arrangements?
