I'm with George. Water isn't allowed to freeze outside of a drink. That is a law of nature. Anyplace where anything made of frozen water lasts more than the afternoon can stay right where it is. I'll go in summer, when the water is moving again.
I don't even like wearing jumpers.

I knew you were old, George, but I didn't think you were that decrepit.
I don't think the ice and snow sculptures look very good in the summer time.

I think they will look just about right. Unfrozen. I can check out your pics any time I need to remind myself.

All this talk of warm clothing.. makes me remember the fleece i had which got nicked in heathrow on my way out (x-ray operating w'kers). Anyway.. I have packed for south india in july, but will be in north china in feb. And I just sent my hiking boots back to the UK cos they're too damn heavy to carry.
So that leaves me needing a winter wardrobe. I heard tell that you could get branded north-face stuff in china at a fraction the cost. Is this true? Can someone tell me where so i can make it first stop on my itinerary... ta...

Oh, I am not a doubter. I know for sure it will be bloody cold. Too cold for these tropically-inclined bones.
The non-drinkable solid water looks very pretty. Might be nice for a quick visit, but I would want to be back somewhere reasonable by evening.
Can't imagine a glass big enough to need that much ice though, but there just might be vodka in the area.

Adn Hogans call themselves tough- shout "COLD BREEZE!" and watch them pick up their petticoats and leap up on a chair.
Marmite, Chinese winter wear is pretty good, and pretty cheap. It's not as good as what you could get at home, so just layer a lot. Sweaters, sweaters, sweaters! And a good toque.

Too bloody right. If God had meant Man to live in cold climates, he wouldn't have invented beer.
(Yes, I know it doesn't make sense, but it's the feeling that matters)

Marmite, thanks for posting that guy's website. His pictures are spectacular. I'm strictly an amateur photographer - and our camera did NOT like the cold. Those pictures were taken the year before we went. Interesting to see the different sculptures and buildings. The year we were there the big building was a replica of the Three Gorges Dam. Darn dangerous climbing up the ice steps to get to the top.
There's a Wal-Mart in Harbin. Get the taxi driver to take you there. You will be able to buy all the winter clothes you need, including boots and down vest.
