It doesn't resonate?
When I first happened across the story I felt like I'd seen this girl already in a thousand people I'd met. That it's a stupid blog isn't the issue. It's the reaction she's generated. Were you aware of it? The amount of time young Chinese spend online makes me feel like there is something significant here. Given the amount of time you spend with young Chinese people had you heard about it?

i came across the story a while back and just dismissed it. the girl isn't half pretty nor charming (IMOHO). kudos to her for making herself famous but it just does not do it for me

Yep. For a Chinese girl (through a Western eye) she is fairly plain, and she isn't charming.
It struck me though, from what little I could read about her, that her approach to presentation in words and appearance was a kind of exemplar blogged large. She's outstanding for being a lot like everyone else, except that they tend to live it rather than bulletin board it. For one thing, point a camera at a Chinese girl (or even a Chinese boy) of a certain age and you'll get poses very like those she has chosen to strike herself.

Mm. Photographic presentation is a huge part of the Chinese psyche. I'm staggered by how many gals go out and get modelling shots on special occasions. You're on to something, Joe: sup'n's going on here that I can't fathom. Some kind of form-over-content thing, or form-held-in-such-low-regard-that-why-not-pimp-it-up phenomenon.
