Updates from last night. Oy. More victims members for the swelling, itching ranks of Raoul's Club Tequila! Reham and I celebrating Cinco de Mayo! Here in the advanced tequila research labs of El Rancho Raoul, we do our part to get lovely young ladies (in this case, Gretch) to be sure and get adequate levels of tequila in their diets.

Good move Hamish.
Woza, the next knock on the door that you hear will be your old mate Xiao Jiba and his boys.

No, for God's sake don't get JiJi here. There's already enough angst, hormones, and psychosis flowing around as it is.

Well, I am a bit surprised. You all seem to be having a good time, despite my absence. Still, it just goes to show.
In the image labelled "Woza goes for the souvenirs!", directly below the label, are four images of Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. Damned if I didn't buy the exact same set in Suzhou a few years back, and they told me they were one offs! I was robbed.

Just a kwik note, for the record: Raoul and I were the only ones to not get a review of our dinner after drinking that god awful Baijiu swill. ;D ;D

Mmmmm, if anything more a case of being "too good".
We had quite a number of China Newbies here at El Rancho. And I had this bottle of very, VERY cheap baijiu on hand. And we knew these new kids wanted to experience China to the utmost possible extent.
THe rest is history...

I've never tried 'cheap' baijiu. I was 'plied' with the expensive stuff over Spring Festival. The most I 'had' to drink was 1 chinese beer class full. But I only had to 'gambe' the last inch in the glass. It was 'interesting' tasting, but not impossible to do. Didn't have any need to re-visit dinner!

Open a bottle of bai jiu and I'm outta the space like a room full of gnats sprayed with insecticide.
After I drank all the boss's Tequilla, of course.
Raoul... I owe you. Come to Xi'an the hospitality's on me. Thanks darlin'.

Some baijiu is merely bad. Some can be made nearly palatable, like some of those from Guilin. (there must be some out there that are clean, but I haven't found any.) Some are flavoured with spices and herbs, some even relatively pleasantly. I have had one taste a bit like ouzo, and others taste like medicine, but aren't.
Some are evil, smoking, eye-tearing, paint-removing, fuming, choking, toxic substances that are seemingly made from many ingredients, the least offensive of which is the 12 yo jockstraps fermented in bile. These contravene all kinds of anti-pollution laws and the geneva convention, being from the category of chemical warfare.
This kind opens the sluice gates at both ends and gives instant brain hemorrages. Avoid at all costs.

While you folks were partying I was away in Wudalianchi enjoying the culture and history of China. They have a wonderful natural spring that does magical medical things for those who drink from it (pictures coming soon) - anyway, to the point -
the locals make a baijiu from the spring water and it is the best, smoothest brew so far encountered. It is actuallly good to drink and kicks like a mule. It's worth the trip up here just for the booze!

So, what was the hangover like?
Yeah, sorry, Raoul. Forgot the other common ingredient - Droppings from a sick vulture.
