A self-portrait ... note that there is a mess of confusion in the swirling mists of "self"

Here are just a few of the "people" photos that I have taken in the past few days. This gentleman was headed toward the small lake where ladies were washing clothes on rocks as their ancestors have done for centuries. Very near the lake are many little garden patches. In this photo a man is welding. No mask to protect face and eyes. This photo was taken near the outskirts of the city where squatters seemed to be the norm. The poverty breaks my heart. But I know that giving away all that I have is not the answer. They have to find their own answers. In a zone where at least a dozen new high-rise apartments are going up, this woman has her home and small business supplying some food products to the migrant workers who live in shanties and in doorways and in the unfinished lower levels of the new buildings. This lady was happy to have her photo taken (or else happy to have a brief rest from carrying the heavy load of bricks) as she works on transporting bricks for the new walls of a new apartment building. And finally, two older ladies sweeping the mud and dirt off the streets. While I was there, trucks carrying the dirt from excavations would continue to add to the devris on the street. And the ladies contiuned their task with smiles while chatting back and forth to each other. All up and down the road, there were other ladies doing the same task yet they seemed unable to keep up to the task. eagle

Great photos of everyday life in China, Eagle. You have a fresh perspective that I'm afraid I've lost (if I ever had it to begin with).

i still take the odd one every now and then. If I see something really strange.
But I pretty much have everything covered..the local street vendors, the people carrying stuff on their shoulders, the local kids, the local food..more to show people back home what our surroundings look like...
'look mum, I'm eating duck's head with chopsticks!'
that kinda thing.

I'm sticking to my rule of NOt leaving the apartment without my camera. Everytime I break this rule there is something I want to take a photo of. I have had to use my phone camera a couple of times - and these aren't the best quality.
