All the first years are busy with their military training. 6000 of them parading around the campus is fascinating to watch. Shiny new uniforms, flash water canteens, matching green foldup stools to sit and listen to proper political theory for a few hours between runnning, marching, etc etc. Next week they get their weapons. Marching off to lunch Is this a crocodile? And still more of them

Bloody hell, they march like people who can barely walk.

They must be a trifle serious up there. They got real uniforms. The only ones I've seen only get the fatigues. Agree with Nobody's assessment on the matching!!

Yep they aren't so good at marching - not sure if this is a good or bad omen for the weapons training. But the best ones have been selected I think and are doing extra marching practice at the old campus - so I think they put on a day of displays for us as well.
They get both sets of uniforms - jungle greens and the dress uniform. We were a military uni at one time and still have lots of military remnants - including bed-making and daily dorm inspections!!

Hey Lotus in the first image there's a guy, 4 rows back, 5 in from the side you're on, who's out of step.

Actually, if you look close most are out of step to some degree or other. Would be extremely noisy if they had steel clicker on souls. Not exactly your precision marching unit are they?

I saw a unit marching today that was excellent. They were in dark blue with white hats, white gloves - navy???
They were playing music while they marched. All the ones in green fatigues were sitting watching.
The switched from standard march, like we know, to the goose step with arms crosing their chests. Very impressive.

I think it funny that military training seems to consist of calisthenics, being shouted at and marching badly.
I always thought there was a bunch of other stuff, involving guns and gruelling camping marching things.

Well my lot do get to play with guns and bayonets, but I wasn't on the new campus that week. And for gruelling they have to be up and on parade at 6:00am, and don't finish their training until 9:00pm. Not fun for babies who have left the joys of parents saying - "Darling all you have to do is study, we will do everything else for you".
But I would have loved the photos of the bayonet practice!
They didn't have a class list for the 1st years until this week - I figured it was becasue they waited until they saw how many killed each other during their training before they bothered to make up the lists.

Well my lot do get to play with guns and bayonets, you must be at a military university. none of the graduates i know in luoyang have ever touched a rifle, but they have dressed up in greens and jumped around in circles.
