Hello everyone,
This is my first post, though I've been reading the forums for some time.
Does anyone here know about Web International in Ningbo? I've also received an offer from Web Intl in Dalian, but I'm more interested in the job in Ningbo. Any info would help~
Cheers,

You didn't tell me about the offer in Dalian. That would be bitchin' as well, I think. Have you heard about the Typhoon currently ravaging the southeastern coast, which has claimed the lives of 80?

I already sent some tips on Web privately; hope ya got 'em OK.
I don't know anything about the Web school in Dalian, but would add that Dalian is one of the nicest places to live and work in China. Clean, easy to get around in, fun, interesting, and stuffed to the scuppers with great seafood and pretty girls. Ningbo is OK...it offers easy access to Shanghai and Hangzhou and is no slouch on the seafood-and-girls front.
Which is more tolerable for you: muggy, blazing summers (Ningbo) or cold, wet winters (Dalian)?

Well guys, I think the job in Dalian is no longer available because of my following the advice of my Chinese pals here in the states, who've more or less told me that I can't talk with both of them at the same time. Yet everyone who's weighed in from the Expat side of the coin seems to believe that there isn't any problem trying to negotiate with both--some have even suggested I play them against each other. So.. To Raoul: Materially, I think I would rather be in Ningbo. But Dalian would probably be a better environment for my Chinese studies. I also have some Chinese contacts in Ningbo, and I'd be right around the corner, come May--assuming I would be invited to the yearly soiree in Suzhou. You're the salty seasoned pro, right? any other thoughts ? BTW--this is starting to crossover into my other thread "4+ offers from the same company?" FYI To N ;D: I know you prefer Dalian--any other points I should consider? ~*Meihou Wang*~

Hey dey, When it comes to employment stuff Chinese people are total sheep. Listen but bring a grain of salt. You can definitely negotiate with/play off as many potential employers as you want. In fact, I encourage you to do so... In general Dongbei is a good place to study Chinese...the version spoken on the street is a lot more like the "CCTV standard Mandarin" you should focus on learning first. By the time you get south of the Yangzi river all hell breaks loose linguistically. However, Dalian seems to use a local non-standard dialect a lot more than is true in the other large Dongbei cities I've been to. When I was new in China I proudly announced that I had learned my first word of Dalian dialect. I said my word only to see all of them staring at me in shocked horror. I had basically said "F*CK!" to my EC guys. Which reminds me...Dalian is somewhat notorious in China for its open and widespread use of dirty language... Bottom line...you can learn good standard Mandarin anywhere in China; probably easier outside of Guangdong and Fujian provinces, but can be done anywhere. Either Ningbo or Dalian will be OK. My advice is to live where you want to rather than letting the language lessons determine it. Oh, and you're already invited to the May party. No sweat...

Provided you chug-a-lug a bottle of tequila and eat a dozen lamb sticks at the front door.

Please. A shot or two of tequila and one or two lamb sticks will suffice. We aren't savages here...at least not until we start chugging bottles of tequila and devouring vast quantities of lamb. Which you can pretty much count on happening.

What if people are vegetarians? And don't like tequila? Can I eat a FG member instead - raw will be fine, I like vegetables like that - and ...
I can't write anymore bullpoo. Gimme the shot, where's the souvlaki?

Well, being vegetarian AND not liking tequila is pretty damn suspicious in itself. However, eating an FG member will get ya in no problem.
