This test [Test Of English for International Communication] has been around for a while in the rest of the world, but Beijing's only just [late'02] OKd it for PR CHINA. I've just finished running a training course for mid-level execs. at an American electronics company. If you're asked if you wanna "teach" it, PM me or pick up this thread re: what I've worked out. It's widely used by other Asian [ Japan, Thailand, Korea] and European countries as an essential qualification for promotion and transfer. I predict it will become BIG here. My gig paid well. You'd need 80+ hours to do a thorough job; I got a half-arsed 55, but they seemed pleased. No preparation needed, provided you know your grammar, as there's some curly ones in there.

Everybody and their dog takes TOEIC in Japan. I taught TOEIC classes in my first year, but I had no trianing in what the test was, nor how to teach it. A lot of the Japanese unis make their English students take the test as a matter of course for the program. Sometimes once a year.
If China has okayed TOEIC, then expect it to be BIG.
By the way, Japan regularily scores lowest in TOEIC out of most Asian countries(in spite of the $$$ that gets spent on English education.) India and the Phillipines often score the highest. I'd like to see how China compares....
