Would that be Currier and Ives? That well known British Soap Manufacturer? It isn't a spelling mistake. It's a subconscious expression for my desire for Indian food and British soap.

Curried pears? Where might I find such a delicacy? I've had Indian style and Japanese style curried rice, but I can't recall eating curried fruit of any kind.

Next question: the books!
I had a link to a CELTA course provider in my hometown which had a list of, like, twelve texts, about six of which were recommended for purchase. I lost the link.
Any thoughts on the purchase of texts?
Slim has already mentioned the recommended preliminary reading:
Practical Techniques for Language Teaching by Michael Lewis, Jimmie Hill
How to Teach English by Jeremy Harmer
Grammar for English Language Teachers by Martin Parrott
(Two of these seem to be available only on the UK Amazon.)
I plan to get two out of the three prelim texts (and it's not going to include Jeremy Harmer, the, the, the... academic. I shelled out some ungodly number of tens of dollars for The Practice of English Language Teaching and all I got from it was this internet rant).

The bible that we lug around is "Practical English Usage". It's a thick tome that tells you almost everything you want to know about English with examples.
"Practical English Usage" by Michael Swan
It is EXTREMELY useful. During the CELTA course all of us coveted the copies in the CELTA library. We bought it just before coming to China, and it's help explain such chestnuts as "active and passage reasons for choice".
But seriously, this is one of the ones I'd be sorely upset about losing.

So, you think we're stupid enough to carry two eh!?!
One of them is booby trapped to explode if you open to a certain series of pages. The only way to counter it is by opening 6 different pages in a special sequence.
Arrrgh, I am certifiable! ;D
