Any friendly advice on this one? She has passed Band 6 and is "lower advanced" I guess. She aced the written part of IELTS but failed the listening part. I'll see her for an hour Sundays. She wants to pass IELTS to get into grad school so it's not about chatting. Hope I can help.

Should be a piece of cake. You can get bung-loads of IELTS practice materials at any Xinhua shudian. Try the mark Morgan listening or the Cambridge practice tests (remember to buy the tapes!). You can also just do dictation, but one thing about IELTS listening is that it follows a very specific format (short everyday conversation, then one person talking about onbe topic for longer etc) and, they also like to throw in accents...Aussie, S. African, Scottish etc, so the tapes will also be useful.
