It's true they live at the school. It just makes me want to give them big cuddles and not be too hard on them. They seem happy enough lots and lots of mates to play with. If you do choose kingy Motz you will have no problem getting a well paid job

I guess if the little ones don't know anything else then they don't know what they're missing out on yet do they?? :-\ As wierd as it sounds money is not my major motivating factor, it certainly helps, I've been working jobs that I dislike (in varying levels) since I've left school .... 10 years ago and now it's time for me to do what I want to do, which is what coming to China is all about for me

i have 1 year worth of lesson plans for kindies, want 'em? at the kindie as i mentioned before i had to write my won lesson plans, there was no book, so i was gathering together all i had. told them long ago to get Let's Go Starter - now when I left they finally did. I like Let's Go series - the teacher's book is written pretty well to my opinion and makes it really easy for a teacher to conduct classes. That and Little Dragon American English books (the program I taught before). Teaching kindergarteners is exciting. But as was mentioned before requires energy and a strong voice - not that you have to scream out loud but you need to have a strong voice because in fact with kiddies you just have no choice but to talk loud and a lot. I'll second Ruth about the age and learning foreign languages. I've had children who could barely speak their own language or had some speech defects and learning a foreign language actually helped them to improve articulation, and even raised their confidence level. Of course some places want you there just as a "dancing monkey" (the school) but always want to see the result (the parents). I remember in one kindergarten in Qingdao I was told by the principle to practise less and to have more fun with them. And in 2 weeks parents complained saying they want kids to practise more and to play less games. CONTRADICTION! I did manage to *satisfy* both sides but boy, was I angry with the kindergarten hehe Five rules are important I follow when teaching kids: 1. Give the material according to their age and knowledge in their native language (sometimes it is hard because in fact in China kindergarten kids don't know a LOT of things that are normally taught to other kiddies in say, my country). Consult with your TA or kindergarten teacher on the material you plan to give children - it is also a good way to show that YOU CARE. 2. Games and songs should be more or less material related. If that is not exactly possible, then add the vocabulary from the songs to your curriculum as extra-material. 3. Show them a lot of love (they will definitely love you back UNCONDITIONALLY! and learn better from you) but don't be afraid to put your feet down. (Especially with 3-6 years old kids - it is a critical in their growth age where they are pretty much stubborn and distracted). 4. Award and *punishment*. Children should know why and when they get award. Also the punishment should be very simple and kids should exactly know WHY they were punished or not given an award. 5. Pay a lot of attention to kids' characters and communicate with teachers on that matter. Some kids might be very well behaved in your classroom but outside of it they are considered *trouble-makers* and vice-versa. Of course it is not that easy to have an individual approach in a class that lasts only 20-30 mins. But it is possible to make a good contact with kids at the very beginning of the class when you go through a 2min-phase called *Making friends*. Cheers

how do you go with he attention span of kindy kids?? I think that'll be the hardest to oversome. How are the classes structures for teacher's of kindy do you go around to diffeent classes for a certain amoutn of time each day or are the kids with you all day(scary thought) ? wow a whole yeaf of lesson plans man that 's gotta be hours worth of work?? You should publish them into a booklet and sell em to newbies to the game

How are the classes structures for teacher's of kindy do you go around to diffeent classes for a certain amoutn of time each day or are the kids with you all day(scary thought) ? Well, the attention you keep by changing the activities. Here's the approximate timing for a 30 mins class: 1. Greetings and making friends - 2-3 min 2. TPR - 5 mins 3. Review (including songs)- 7 min 4. New material (including songs) - 10 mins 5. Games - 5 min sometimes new material takes longer time to be taught, so you can skip games and use the time for some simple game-like practice.

Cheekygirl excellent advice and with my limited time at the kindy I do agree with you and yes if you don't mind sending me the material. But I must send you something it's our tradition (george what do Aussies send to people from other countries, people that we like, not soldiers and stuff or plutonium. Koala key rings always go down well.

I had Kindy this afternoon, I had bought a toy doctor's set because we are discussing health problems at the moment. Made a head band with a red cross and a red heart that the doctor could examine with her stethoscope. If the children weren't well they got an injection if they were well they got a sticker. I hate hyprochondriacs and I want to discourage them from this early age..
Well I enjoyed making some of the props. The songs that we do suck. I remember my nursery rhymes. Oranges and Lemons about people's heads being chopped off. Ring a ring a rosy about the plague. I think London bridge was about the great fire. These songs are classics with really catchy tunes.
Anyway I must stick to the curriculum. I only do 4 hours a week and I am sort of liking it.
Usually after finishing Kindy, I go back home to rest for 40 minutes collect my lesson plan, have a snack and on to my adult classes, well the car broke down in the middle of the highway. I wanted to push the van over to the side of the road where it would be safer but James the driver (who is a bit of a spunk wouldn't allow it ) I thought the problem was not the battery but the points were wet, try explaining that in Chinese when ones Chinese is less than limited. Anyway about 20 minutes later another company 's car came to take me to my next class about half an hour away. No time to pick up my books for the next cLass no time to eat . Anyway the lovely James escorts me across the road, holding the umbrella, his arm lightly around my shoulder his body just a bees dick away from mine.
The traffic is unusally heavy because of /or in spite of the rain, . I see a poor woman has been knocked off her bicycle and is lying in the busy road with no one trying to help her apart from this nice guy with an umbrella. I tell the driver to stop the car in no uncertain terms ( stop the m'kaying car) I know being a laouwi I can at least bring attention to the women. I tell the driver to call the hospital. Immediately we are surrounded by people who are willing to help I am reassured that they will tke the women to the hospital.. These are the few time I will pull rank being white. The women did start to come around a little bit. I think she is going to be OK mainly from her eyes at first they were glazed over, then she did try to get up.
I told Eri and she said China is becoming a country that doesn't care about the society and it is up to the government to provide at least basic medical care .
Anyway I arrived at my advanced adults class with only my Kindy teaching material. We all had a good laugh about that but then I had to improvise. We did trivia questions and celebrity head, they enjoyed themselves but it's not learning English this is fine for 15 or 20 minutes.. I do like this company al ot
