Hello! I recently met this American couple who are looking for placement in Beijing. Unfortunately the job they had secured while coming here turned bogus and now they are living off their savings desparately looking for someone to help So if anyone could offer any information about recruiting agencies... job openings MID_TERM maybe (they do realize their poor timing) or even info for February 2005. I've had some luck through the "guanxi" chain but I can't do anything to actually GET them a job...basically I've just been referring them to other people who all say that there are no openings until February. Much appriciated to anyone who can shed some light. Cheers

Hey Jazz! First of all, tell your friends to stay the hell away from recruiters. I have yet to ever hear a positive, or even a neutral story about dealing with them. It's not very hard to find a job here. (Of course, finding one that isn't bogus may be impossible... ) If you'll go to the section of this forum called "Le Laowai Liberation League Lifestyle & Labor Lending Library" and click on the Links thread at the top of the section, you'll find a number of high-quality job links plus one for Dave's ESL Cafe. That's Magazines is my personal favorite. You can pass these links to your friends, or this section is publicly accessible- they can use it themselves. If they aren't too pathetic, invite them to send me an e-mail and join us. We can use a few more Americans here- we've got all these Aussies around now and the carpet-cleaning bills are killing me. Good luck!

Hey thanx! I gave them the info... and I told them of your offer, but they are quite set on sticking around in Beijing... they got business visas that will last them until February and they are doing part-time work for now to pay the bills. I guess those carpets just weren't meant to be cleaned

Hi Jazz! I'm sorry...I guess I was unclear. I do that sometimes... Your friends don't need to leave Beijing...the job sites will have lots of Beijing listings. The That's Magazines classifieds offer the ability to select the ads appearing in their Beijing edition. As for the invites and the carpet cleaning and stuff, I was referring to this forum. They can do that from Beijing too. Hope I've done better this time...

No sweat, Jazz...I'm dead tired and the slow one could well have been me. I've been meat from the neck up the last few days.
Anyway, I'm really glad you're here and your friends are welcome to come along too if they'd like...
