I confiscated 3 phones from students today...
I'm seriously thinking about that method, looks really cool, lol

Must be something about my looks - scary? So far, none of my 400+ students have played with their phones once class has begun. Earphones come out of ears as the class is about to start. Maybe they are just being kind to the old man teacher.

What do you do with the phones that are confiscated? Do you return them at the end of the class with a warning? Do you sell them to new FTs? Do you make a collage in the shape of a Chinese vase to dislpay by a window?

I confiscated phones before but I gave them back. Once a student's phone rang in the middle of the class. I took it and answered. It was his mother and she was in shock. I said HELLO, COULD YOU CALL LATER? YOUR SON IS TRYING TO LEARN ENGLISH! Actually, that boy disappeared after a month - his English was almost zero and the class I was teaching was mainly Pre-Intermediate level. Plus with parents who call during the class they pay quite a lot of money for... GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!!!!

I give stuff I confiscate to their head teacher. They have to go and ask for them. Also, takes me a few days to get around to it sometimes. Maybe a week. So far, I have given phones back and kicked them out of class, though. Threatening with the same. So, yes, they know that one day it will happen. So the phones are now away.

My students get their phones back at the end of the day. If it's a late class they get it back the following morning.
I have also been known to throw non-relevant text books and homework as well as magazines out the window.
