That's good news. Now I can just cut and paste for my new course.
The god I don't believe in came to my rescue - or at least my ease - just in time.

But I'm still delighted to see the Wiki back. I wonder if they've entered into some kind of spineless deal with China the way Yahoo and Google did?

I have been using answers.com all along and it pretyy much duplicates the wiked one.... I did that as well but it was a big annoyance to go to answers.com then type a topic in the search instead of just clicking on a link that someone provided on their page/blog/article/whatsoever. less time typing, more time clicking...

seems to depend on which server you are tied to. wik was never down for me.
be careful with wik. it is editable by the general public, and some entries are not accurate. current political topics/persons entries are particularly unreliable. some topic providers have agendas, i suppose.

All too true. However, I can cut and paste and edit to my heart's content etc, and save myself craploads of the boring bits.

Other Wikis worth looking at: Wikitravel (http://wikitravel.org/en/Main_Page), a free worldwide travel guide. Parts of it are very good, but coverage of China is quite spotty. Check your area; maybe you can improve it. Wikigogy (http://wikigogy.org/Main_Page), a Wiki for ESL teachers. It is only a few months old, doesn't have much yet. Citizendium, started by one of the Wikipedia founders, intending to involve experts more and not allow anonymous edits, in an effort to get higher quality than WP. The wiki is not up yet, but for info see citizendium.org/

Good news. Was one of the oddest bits of censorship by the Chinese authorities that I have encountered.

Good to see wikipedia is back. However, we may be losing another favorite sometime soon. Youtube was just bought by Google, and Google has already denied access to their own video service in China (they check by ip), because they didn't want to have to turn over information about people who posted dissident videos. Youtube is still working right now, but I have a feeling it might poo-out pretty soon.

Is it just me or is Wikipedia gone again?

One of my less cerebrally challenged Chinese students here in Australia used Wik, among others, to research his choice of major assignment, viz Tian An Men 1989. Its the links that give Wik an advantage: this Pandora's box must be a challenge to Beijing's internet police.

Been trying for the past few days - grrrrrr! Back to using a proxy server. Sigh, it's better than nothing. Thanks to Raoul and crew for providing these back door entry links!

Whereabouts are these provided? The one proxy site I was using seems to have crapped out on me!

There's one listed on the Links page. Other computer people may know of more.
