Hi Guys, I need some help. Yesterday I pulled a bone head move and sprayed my keyboard, laptop-iBook, with vinegar. I am now on the PC that the school provides and I can't stand it. Today, when I went to key in my password, the keys were sticking, so lets say I that when I would click on an m, it would not stop printing ems. Needless to say I could not get into my computer. After trying around 20 times I finally managed to enter my password and the keys did not stick any longer. However, my space bar and my track pad are no longer active, my track pad button still has the clicking sound. I am afraid to bring it to the Chinese computer fixer uppers because they don't seem too familiar with macs. I have turned the computer off, lifted out the keyboard and currently have it in an upside down position, hoping that the liquid will evaporate. I am terrified that I will not be able to access it again. Terrified is not an exaggeration type word, my whole life is in there and I have not backed anything up Does anyone know anything about the logic board? If all fails what will I be required to buy or do. Any advice would help, but please don't give me advice that you are not certain about. At the moment I feel so that all I want to do is Thanks guys

ouch!!!! vinegar!
Ok. Let's calm down for a minute!
- did you unplug the computer immediately and remove the battery? - How old is the ibook? - I'm guessing you managed to reboot it since the accident, right?
Don't worry about the data because it's on the HD. The last resort is to take the HD out and put it in a external case to recover your documents if it comes down to that.

Yeah - my computer frequently copes well with tea or beer or wine sprayed all over it while I read the forum! My lappy managed to do cope as well and it is a Chinese PC.

Funny, funny guys I'm glad your getting a kick out of my tragedy Nolefan, I did not remove the battery and haven't as of yet, should I? The ibook is 2 years old and the warrenty just expired in August, so no help there. And yes I managed to reboot but could not get my mouse to move around without an external mouse, nor could I get my space bar to make spaces.

Sallie spilled coffee on the keyboard of one of our G4 laptops. It is a titanium model so the keyboard comes out of the machine easily. I tried CAREFULLY disconnecting the keyboard and flooding it with clean water very completely. I immersed it even. I then dried it for an hour or so over a radiator here in the apartment. It works fine. No problems since.
Your mileage may vary.

Thanks Hamish, I have removed the keyboard, but not the cable. I have also removed the RAM shield however, I do not know how to spread the tabs in order to release the cable line. What type of problems did you experience before cleaning the keybaord? Thanks, for the hope.

Sounds like we had the same experience you're having. I dunno what kind of connector you have there.

Or, you can get one of these new iMac 24"/2.16 GHTZ/2 Gigabye RAM/500 Gigabyte drive muthas like I brought home from my recent trip to the Americas. You can bid on the handsome man as well. Actually, he is REALLY cheap! In fact, he'll buy dinner, and drinks, and send flowers. Pitiful ain't it?

follow Hamish's advice and make sure that it is fully dried before you reconnect it. As far as the trackpad, I'm sorry to say that is most likely FUBARED.
Hamish.. I'm jealous! I'm eying the 17" version but the new macbooks have me salivating as well...

I'm thoroughly enjoying the MacBook I picked up before coming. Recently learned about and enabled the dual booting it allows - I now have a small partition with Windows XP for if and when any such programs I MUST run aren't available for Mac OSX. m'kayin' clever dudes at Apple these days.
Ham, that's a hilarious use of the iSight cam. Took a minute for everything to click in my brain, but I was giddy when it did.

I spent some time researching and believe I have a final solution to all the Mac problems you will ever encounter. 1. Make sure the Mac is powered up. 2. Put on some rubber gloves. 3. Slowly lower the Mac into a large container filled with saltwater. 4. Prepare to be assimilated into the Microsoft Collective. "Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy." - Bill Gates

If you have tried washing, even soaking, it in clean water, give it another shot. Carefully dry it thereafter and do some lighting of candles.
