Ladies and gentlemen,
In some hopes of healing some wounds around here, in response to several member requests (including the thread's originator) I'm pulling this one down.
It's a first. We've deleted a few offensive posts and we've had to lock a thread or two, but to my remembrance this is the first time a whole thread has come off. I'm reluctant to do it. Once it goes from "post" to "thread", it becomes the ideas of more than one person...making it that much harder to delete.
But this thread contained some opinions that were inevitably going to be bitterly offensive to a lot of people. I was upset by some of them myself. And the thread could not be steered back to a more civil tone. When this happens, it's time for the thread to go.
One thing I learned and confirmed as part of this: despite some misinformation you may have heard, there are most definitely times when you should PM me...or your choice of Brain.
Personally, I can't possibly read everything posted here every day. I simply don't have the time to read that much. And sometimes I just scan threads...I don't always catch subtleties.
If you're having a serious problem, please don't just appeal to me from within a post. I may not see it soon enough. However, I always clear my PMs and e-mail...often more than once a day. If it's serious, please use a medium that will definitely be seen fairly quickly.
Discussing forum issues openly is great. I encourage it. But there are times when you have to pull whatever fire alarm will actually be heard by the firemen, while your house is still standing.
I do regret that this incident seems to have cost us the presence of Bubba. He is someone that I regarded as a close personal friend, and I have to tell you that the senses of loss and shock are very great for me.
He actually did try talking to me, but solving conflicts between dear friends is hard for me. It puts me in pretty much a no-win situation. It takes me time to work them out...too much time, apparently, in this case.
