The good Mrs. E and I would like to spend time on a beach sipping rum from a coconut and getting a decent shade of pink and red. We have thought of Sanya on Hainan. Since we have a four to five week break, we are hoping to make the best of the time avoiding cold weather yet still stay in China. We would also like to do some touring in the southern areas that would have relatively decent weather (no long underwear type of weather). We would greatly appreciate whatever you have to tell us regarding Sanya, Nanning, Kunming, Xiamen, GuangZhou and other southern locales.

Eagle, one of the advantages of China is it's close proximity to poorer countries. Why go to Sanya, when your kuai drives you further in Thailand, or Vietnam? A Thai or Vietnamese tan would look just as good as a Hainanese tan and would cost less, and give you a glimpse of another Kulcha.

Or, if staying in China, Beihai, on the Guangxi coast, offers a white beach and reasonable prices.

Oh, my God, for once I agree with George. If you want a beach vacation, get out of China and head for Thailand...maybe Vietnam in a pinch or perhaps the Philippines. China has some OK beaches, but these other countries will offer beach experiences much nicer than anything China has...and will generally be much cheaper to boot. To leave China and return, all you need is a re-entry permit for your residence permit. If your residence permit doesn't already include re-entry (and it probably already does), you can buy a re-entry permit for 300 RMB or so.

Sounds good. Now does anyone have suggestions on what to see, where to go, what to do while in the deep south of China? We want to spend some time touring and discovering in the warmer climes of China while we have this winter break (OK spring break)

I believe the lunar rew year is Feb. 17th this year... meaning Feb. wil not be a fab place to travel to "famous" places in China... prolly most Aisa celibrates this time..? I've not been to the above mentioned places & their beaches.... but I have been on one or two nice beaches in my day Hainan has ok beaches once you go away from the crowds. But the Spring Festival weeks are Way Too overpriced to make it a wise choice.... same wit Beihai... but Guangxi has some cool countryside if you want the village experience with out long undies

HI Da Dan,
Guanxi is on our list of places to go. We will have time outside of the busy two weeks to visit the more famous spots. Maybe we will chill out in Thailand during the week of February 17th.
Any more ideas, anyone?

keep open about Sanya for a couple days... I'm in the process of looking at renting a big apartment there right now, one I can rent out rooms to folks like yourself & also to normal people I'm looking at nice places near the sea, I'll furnish it with everything needed for a fun few days; bikes, snorkel gear, camping gear, condoms, a maid, (not to be used together ; ) full kichen, DVD's, pool, gym, & so on... ect... & All dat. Give me a week & I'll know.
