Are there any Saloonies in Jilin City and if so are you planning on being there during January? I've accepted a three week post at a winter English camp and although it looks like a bit more work than I'm accustomed to with my comfy public school job, I'll have some spare time and would love to have a drink or two ok, maybe three but that's my limit, unless I've had three and can easily be persuaded to have four.

I used to teach in Changchun, the next wide spot in the railroad track south of Jilin City. Be sure and take in the hoarfrost that appears evey year on the local trees. Quite beautiful, and relatively rarely seen because it only occurs in places experiencing temperatures of about, uh....40 below zero.

Darling, did you forget that I'm a northern girl born and bred and posted in Inner Mongolia. A wee little chill in the air is nothing, I would chose cold over stinking hot any day.

scour the city for bars? changchun has bars where Philippine friends are singers. maybe you'd like to holler a song or two?
