English is full of slang, idioms, expressions and so forth. They come from countries, regions of countries, cities, even regions of cities. They come from verious trades, TV shows, movies and books. I frequently hear some I've never heard about before.
So here's a thread where you can ask. I'll get the ball rolling- the first are Australian words:
- Doss - Fair dinkum - Cuppa - Strides (I think it's clothing of some sort) - I'll kick you fair up the date
Actually, they're ALL Hogan terms- I looked up the Yankee one myself.

doss = crash fair dinkum = real, truly, truth. cuppa = cuppa tea, sometimes coffee strides = dacks date = girlfriend, or in this context, arsehole.

Crash as in go to bed, I'd suppose.
Dacks? footwear, perhaps?

Dacks? Footwear? And I suppose in Canuckistan you wear lampshades over your undies as headwear?
Footwear are shoes, or thongs, or flipflops if you are continentally challenged.
OK, i will go with an older lingo from other regions if it will help. Dacks are braes, or trews. Perhaps merely pantaloons, shalwars or maybe even slacks.

To our Chinese members: "dacks" is Australian slang for Trousers or Pants.
You should have all learned Spanish instead.

Ce? Spanish always reminds me of Hemingway. Just watched a digitalised version of A Farewell To Arms. And of course Fawlty Towers. Manuel running around after Basil whom he thought Fawlty had put in the ratatouie has to be one of the funniest skits I've ever seen. My real favourite was the dead guest and the kippers.

A thing about pants that has got me intrigued. " a pair of pants" is common, normal usage. Advertising, the scum of the commercial world, has, over the past few years taken to calling it a "pant" I cringe whenever I see a "Pant" advertised.....buy one, get one free.

In that vein, I just went and bought a glass: Japanese frame, Chinese lenses. Looks great on me, but the prescription's off.
I'm such a retard.

here in USAnia, if you is retard, you must move to Florida and buy pants that fit under your armpits, and wear white shoes with black socks. In other words, dress like George...

Many armpit pants? Or will just one armpit pant suffice?
