I'm currently teaching in a university [had to drop that in!] intensive Engrish course for mainly Asian students here in beautiful downtown Australia. In the library today I saw some EF [English Farce, thanks Bertie] brochures. It turns out they also offer Mandarin courses for foreigners: you know, the complete "immersion" deal, with homestay - now that would be a culture shock - at amazingly exhorbitant rates, in Shanghai. Does anyone know squat about this side of EF's tawdry operation? I was tempted to remove the brochures, but some kind of integrity kicked in, dammit Janet.

Gonzo nobody gives a fuss about what goes on at your so-called University.. ;D
HaHa---just felt like a 'Ludwig' moment there.
Really though the idea of handing over cash to the likes of EF is depressing. I sort of wonder about the quality of the program but...ahh I don't want to know really.

I hate it when they do that.
I hate it when otherwise respectable-ish institutions laud crapfests.
One of the uber-snooty Japanese EFL websites recently did a feature on one of the worst private schools in this country. No visa sponsorship, no long-term contracts, no housing, teach 14 lessons per day (yes, per day), etc. And here it was on an otherwise seemingly respectable website.
Another apparently decent magazine did a feature on another suck-fest company, ignoring 10 years of volumous complaints.
Why not just bite the bullet and tell your superiors that it's a rock-solid established fact that EF is crap-R-us, and that no institute in their right mind would allow them to advertise on their campus?
Just one idea.

Superiors, Wolf Man? I have none! But I suppose until EF are actually banned, they have the right to peddle their tawdry wares: it's just a case of caveat emptor. Strange that bertie and I actually agree on one thing in life. And Lager, make sure you don't end up working for them in Shanghai. I hear Web International has shat itself too, so take care in your rush to join the city slickers. ps Uni life, and the accompanying status, are cool. The salary and parking fees are not. I've been offered an ESL position at a decent high school, and an extra 30 K a year. I just might have to say "YES"!!

Web had an ad a few days ago---for Wuxi or somewhere and EF are looking all the time it seems. I just automatically distrust chains,,,
