Does anyone know what qualifications are saught after in Europe (Greece or Spain)? We both have TEFL's and B.A.'s but are currently enrolling in a online Master's in Education. We are also looking at getting the TESOL since we can not find the CELTA online. Any suggestions?

Teaching in an Eastern European country is definately a possibility. I've been told, though, that getting into a Western European country, (and I would include Spain and Greece in that category), was next to impossible without an EU passport. Masters and/or PhD would probably help, but I was told during my TEFL training that getting into the EU (legally, mind you), was worse than pulling teeth. Maybe they were blowing smoke up my ass, though.

I would also think that they would prefer someone with a EU passport. We were also thinking of Turkey or Poland. Has anyone taught in western Europe?

Alexis, go to TESall or- shudder- Dave's ESL Cafe's international jobs list, and look over the ads. They'll give you a good feel for what people are looking for. You might also try The Guardian's classifieds, which handle more university-level jobs. Links for all these places are on our Links page in the Library.
Let me reinforce what Nate said...getting a job in Europe without an EU passport, and getting an EU passport if you don't come from an EU country, have both become extremely difficult. Things are a bit easier in Eastern Europe, but you won't get the advantages and prestige that Western Europe offers.

What they said. But I heard fantastic things about The Czech, if you get a good offer. But remember, Canada is an awful long way to ship someone from, when a Brit or an Irishman is right around the corner. Caveat emptor.

"prestiege" wouldn't that be nice combined with teaching in China.!!! I think maybe that is why Europe is appealing. I so much just want to be around people who give a damn about the students and not how much money they are making off of us. I want to be around students who have a desire to learn because they know it suxs to be stupid and desperate....
