This has also been discussed on the 'Fireworks' thread. The ladies are right. Guys, this is a time to celebrate the contribution and dignity of Chinese women. Do your part and rent a couple of them tonight! Raoul, staggering under his heavy load of brandy and Coke...

Serious part of message. Con's fly is open did a really good post, and thanks to it, Con, all us guys are in the good books with all the gals, for a little while. Whenever I think about job promotion, sexual harassment or the lines to the toilet at big time sports grounds, I realise which half of the population does it tougher.
Second serious part of message. "Voyage China" is not a bad read. Its a glossy up market travel magazine, a la "Gourmet Traveller" or that other one I can't think of at the moment.
Not so serious part of the message. "Voyage China" had this to say on p68 of the March, 2005 edition. "Yunnan China Men's Carnival Listen up boys. Once a year, the men of the Dai minority get thoroughly indulged by the womenfolk in the spectacular setting of Zhemi village in Yunnan province. The Men's Carnival is a joyful re-enactment of the homecoming of ancient warriors from a decisive battle. There's a huge feast, dancing and partying to the small hours. And it's open season on flirting too. Newcomers should expect to be drawn into the merriment as things heat up. Zhemi village, Jinping county, +86 (0)873 215 9336"
So when is a good time to go down to Zhemi village and have a beer with the boys. According to "Voyage China", March the 9th, the day after International Womens Day.

June 2004 was International Men's MONTH. Therefore you have another 29 years to go before you can ask for an International Men's Day.
Did your schools forget to give you that month off, and did the students forget to bring you flowers??

I can't remember whether it was Lotus, Kiwi or Ruth that wrote about it last year, but she mentioned that her university commemorated(sp?) IWD, but the students on campus didn't participate. When she asked them why not, they replied "we're not women, we're girls."

I checked this evening with my martial arts class. 20 students, 3 female. Varying from professors at uni to ditch diggers to high school students uni students, etc. Exactly one person in the whole room had heard that it had been international womens day. Me. And i live with me head up me own bum. No tv, no papers, no radio. Sheesh. Where was Australia at this time? Or is it just my redneck provincial city? (Newcastle)
