Fascinating, I know, but it's a subject close to all our hearts, and I have never made a poll before, ok?

Between 6-8 normally, but it varies depending on how many I buy. If I buy an armload I can get them for just over 5 each.

I only bought some for the first time yesterday. 6 kwai, didn't even ask for less.
It appears to be thusly : 7 from a shop, 6 from the street or stall. The street gave wrapper and all, the shop in a little plastic bag with generic cardboard cover.

I'm talking no frills, your local DVD store on the corner, or man in the street if u want, slim plastic baggie with card cover. If you are lucky it will be the same movie inside as outside.

Here in Dalian nearly all the D5 discs (that's the movies that urually have the extras missing) cost 6RMB, and are, for the most part, very good. 9 times out of 10 the cover matches the movie. In Victory Square (the main tourist haunt) though, they cost at least 10RMB.
D9 DVDs (the 'real' ones with all the extras) cost 16RMB. I've started to buy more and more of these lately, especially for films I know I'll watch more than once - mainly because of the extras.

Usually 7, but can come down to 6 with mass purchases. That's out of the grab boxes for the cardboard cases and take-your-chances on whether you will get what you think you are buying.
14 and up for the plastic cases off the shelves.

Don't think I ever paid more than 7 kuai. I posted a few months ago how things were getting "more legal", shall we say, in Hangzhou. Still the case a week or so ago. Nothing on display, and last time I was lead out to the back room, where the sliding door was shut and bolted, so that from the aisle it looked like there was nothing there. Also the pimply faced security guards have moved away from the doorway, and are now actually patrolling the aisles. Bad times ahead, I fear.

PS MK you should have added a $15 Australian column, cos that's what I'll be paying from now on, absolute minimum. I didn't actually tick the more than 10 kuai column, because it would have stuffed up your survey, and also you have added the word "fool" there. Hey, tell me something I don't know.

Usually 7 or 6. My fave place for cheapies though is Gu Lou, where I can usually get them for 4, 3 for 10, or 4 for 10, including cardboard or plastic cases. I tried to go yesterday, in fact, but they'd already packed up by the time I got there.

I should have added, 20-30 for the 'legal' stuff with everything.

I was under the impression that the "legal stuff" usually didn't have poo in terms of extra features.

Well, when I bought some in Foshan, they didn't. But I assumed, do the the others comments, that now they did. The cheapies I bought here have all the outtakes as the special features. I bought the lord of the rings trilogy with the extra disks, so I hope they do. Haven't yet watched them.
