hey
im sure i may be repeating myself but its been too long since ive been here.
next summer i want to go teach in another city(im in beijing) and do what i call summer retreats.
maybe a 2 week deal someplace where i can work my ass off for 14 days, then visit the local spots for another week or so.
what i have been told of china there are many cool and beautiful places. but are they good for teaching??
1. hangzhou 2. suzhou 3. dalian 4. qingdao 5. yunnan 6. sichuan
if there are any other places you can add to this list please get in touch with me. i want to bail on beijing for awhile i know its early to speak about this but its good to be prepared.
what i like is natural beauty. not big, smelly cities.

If you go to Yunnan go to Kunming. "The Land of the Four Springs." If I go back to China, that's pretty much at the top of my list. I have heard that there are some unis there, and friends of a good friend of mine (yeah I know but he's lived in China for years) have had good times there.

Guilin/Yangshuo is also good. Dunno about teaching there personally, but the few people who have mentioned it, seem to think it is also a good place to teach.

It is very difficult to get a z visa job in Guillin and Yangshou. Well to enter on a z visa, they all claim they will change it when you arrive. That is if you care about going in there on a z visa.
It also seems like many places in Yunnan and Sichaun do not offer airfare and the pay is quite low. A trade off, I guess. But I think they might both be real cool places to work.
The money seems to be a lot better in Hangzhou, Suzhou and Dalian. This is what I have found in my searching anyway.
I applied at 5 places in Yangshou and Guillin, not one could get a z visa before arrival.

I can only speak for Suzhou.
The economy here is as red hot as they come. The highest possible rating.

hey...good morning.
im already in china. not worried too much about the airfare cuz ill just front it if i need to. but of course i should get it.
i just want to see another city. work there for a few weeks, hang out, chase some girls and view the sites, take some notes for a book im working on and then come back to beijing.
i have a z visa which expires in january. i got it on my university of photoshop(haha) degree and i hope that i can still stay here.
i wont ever go back to america. if china fails then there is always japan.

i wont ever go back to america. if china fails then there is always japan. The University of Photoshop might not get you a Japanese work visa. Japanese immigration have this nasty habit of checking on that stuff. And it's a rather expensive choice if you don't already have a job lined up. Before coming to Japan (where I am right now) you might want to plan it out a bit.

chum
thanks for that bit of information .
i wonder tho about corruption in japan. i mean if they really need laowai there to teach the language. then wouldnt they be more willing to do some twisting ?
here in beijing it doesnt matter. but i still say i have one.
even got a downloaded program that makes nice ones.

Guilin/Yangshuo are good. I'm not sure about a 2 week job, though there are some little language schools in the latter that may take people on for conversation classes. Its also home to the [in]famous Buckland School. I figure you can't get too burned in 2 weeks.
