Today I looked at two similar apartments and chose the one with white walls. For the first time in China, I'll live alone!  This means a 10 minute walk to work instead of 90 minutes and 85 yuan a day in cabs. It means sleeping in one bedroom on odd-numbered days, the other on even. It means full control of my life outside of work. It means I could get a cat, or a turtle, or a pot plant. It means lying naked on my dining room table while watching bowling on TV. I've gotta get an Ayi: I can barely cook in Canada, and my Home Economics are pathetic. I'm dizzy. I'll have pooploads of household crap to buy for the holiday. Since I just moved in, I have the ultimate excuse for guests who are appalled at my lck of everything. See many of y'all soon! ;D |

 m'kayin Pro-boards!! "too many m'kaying connections" my arse!! I'll now try to write again, what was originally a scintillatingly brilliant and witty post! Nah. I'm now in a bad mood. Your flat, CON, sounds just the place for weary, meiyou-qian-type visitors in October. The dining-table idea sounds good. Mine is simply a glass-topped coffee-table, no chairs! Note to self... COPY, you fool!!

Sounds great, Con. Should visitors bring housewarming gifts? I'm short of virtually everything, so I'm easy to shop for. The killer will be the tight shopping window I'll have between getting paid, and all of you arriving. Thank God for my hefty raise! Just bring your fine selves, and expect minimalist decor, and life's a beach. Oh, you'll all have to climb some stairs: I'm on the 4th floor.  Oh, yeah, and no functioning A/C at the mo.   |

4th floor's fine. I live on the fourth floor. By the 'no air conditioning' comment I'm guessing it's still pretty warm there. We are definitely into fall weather here. Days are cooling down. Nights are chilly. Great sleeping weather.
Is your flat provided by the school? Furnished? Don't knock yourself out just because people are coming to visit. We're family. We are coming to visit you - not your flat. Either that or we're just looking for cheap accommodations!

Ruth, FYI-Suzhou has been VERY hot for the last ten days or so. But things are looking up-it's been rainy and cloudy and-finally-cool today! Fingers crossed it stays this way (well, the temperature part, anyway  ) |

Ruth, it's off-campus, in a compound with plenty of cars and children. It's furnished, but like I said, you're arriving ahead of my paycheck, so I'd advise bringing some double-sized bedsheets. There's a modest but passable market district, so don't overdo the packing.

Naw, Georgie, I've got 2 bedrooms, each w/ a double. Ruth's bringing an air mattress for yours truly. And I don't mind: woken up on so many couches in my time, this'll be a breeze.
