Does anyone know the present operating hours of the Shanghai Maglev train? My mom is coming into town, and if I could bring her in and out of the city on the train, that would be really great. Danke shoen for any info!

I'd normally refer you to the Shanghai Airport Web Site link in our depressingly underappreciated Links page, but that site seems to be down for maintenance or St. Mei-You's Day or some such. A Google search dredged up this one in addition to many more: home.wangjianshuo.com/archives/20040824_maglev_schedule.htm

Doh! I should have used the links page! I'd looked at the page you mentioned before, but I was hoping the hours had been extended since it had been updated.

I gather they haven't been? This is not much of a country for extending hours of anything. Either way, thank you for using the Links page.

My 2 jiaos worth on the Maglev. The following is all based on my experiences last January, so I hope to hell it's still accurate and I haven't forgotten anything.
Do it if you get the chance. 50 yuan 1 way, and 80 yuan if you buy a same day return ticket. It takes you to one of the outer suburban railway stations, can't remember the name, and from then on its the underground. So if your mum has a $hitload of luggage, well consider yourself warned.
On the first trip I sat and watched the scenery? flash by. The trip only takes about 5 minutes. On the return trip I watched the speedometer in the carriage, as that was more interesting than watching the suburbs of Shanghai.
I'll try to find some images and post them here, but it won't be until late this week or early next week.

A couple of images of the World's fastest train. I tend to believe that hype, if it's not the world's fastest train then it's damn close. On the return trip I tended to just watch the speedo in the carriage. It actually hit 431kph but that image was a bit blurry.
