I think the same in college. I don't see any drinking to excess. But then, 90% are girls here.
Drinking to excess seems mostly to be businessmen or labourers.
Only ever saw one drunk girl, and she was plastered bigtime, stumbling into the restaurant looking for the can I think. Looked about 20. No one made a fuss, though. Just some disapproving looks, is all.

The only time I have seen college students really drunk is around graduation. Then they have long dinners together (dorm mates, best friends whatever) and end up crying into their beers and baijiu, having to be helped out by their mates. This university has more guys than girls and even so, there is not the same drinking culture. I have heard business guys tell their young staff that they have to learn to drink and smoke if they want to be successful in business. Nothing like the university students back home who figure if you can remember the weekend you didn't live it (and why does that sound familiar? Something about the '70's faintly rings a bell )

The 70's? I remember the seventies. It was the Short Decade, right? About two weekends long, and a few random days in between?
