After the first 4000, Fts pay 10% tax for stuff like breathable air, potable water, well maintained roads etc, right? Does this stay the same whatever the salary [eg 15000], or is there a sliding scale?

I think I'm paying over 10 percent. Have to look this over. And up.

Dezshira says: Monthly Salary --- Tax Rate 5,000 - 20,000 --- 20% 20,001 - 40,000 --- 25% 40,001 - 60,000 --- 30% 60,001-80,000 --- 35% 80,001-100,000 --- 40% 100,000 or more --- 45% with the first 4000 untaxed. Worldwide-tax seems to agree.

Hmmm... actually, that lines up almost exactly to what I end up with every month. Don't quite get what that little deduct-y thing is for, but it subtracts to give what I generally get. NIce post, Joe.

Thanks Joe. Nice homework! Looking at these sites more closely they seem to be focusing on employees of foreign companies, rather than people employed by Chinese parties, eg schools. I have the feeling we may get off more lightly. For eg, on an 8000 salary, I was only paying 400 tax [first 4000 tax free, or at least employer-paid, next 4000 at 10%]. Any more personal experiences out there?

The 5% must be on the 1000 between 4 and 5. And, the rent and utilities are tax free for me as well. As is the extra money I get from extra lessons I do. They give me cash separately.

If you're not sure what tax to pay, just send me your cash and I'll take care of it for you.

Sorry, boys, I may be crazy, but I ain't stupid.
(well, not usually, although I reserve the right to be stupid on occasion - but this isn't one of those occasions.)

For no really good reason I have the idea that the sliding tax scale is a new thing, maybe a few years old. But I also have the idea that the 4000 threshold has been around for a while.
