Another reason I (don't really) love this time of year is that it reminds me that no-one who lives in Ningbo is actually from Ningbo originally - they all go home for a month.

Makes me nervous, Monkey King. I'm getting on a train tomorrow night for an 11 hour trip. Supposedly it won't be a 'busy' train and I'll be able to upgrade to sleeper once I'm aboard. I sure hope so. Just in case, I won't drink a lot of tea before I get on.

Nanning is becoming more vacant also. They must be going someplace. So, where are they all ending up?
Is there a few cities that become hell on earth for a couple of weeks, or do they all go to the little villages they came from?

Is there a few cities that become hell on earth for a couple of weeks, or do they all go to the little villages they came from? Yeah, they are all coming to my little village. The taxis drivers love it right now. They are bumping up the prices due to demand (don't really use the meter around here) Don't forget to check out airfares instead of trains. Right now I can fly from Changsha to Guangzhou for under 160RMB. A hard sleeper is usually about 180RMB and maybe a little more right now.

A friend of mine was in Beijing last week and he said the waiting rooms were so full that people were waiting in the halls. Some poor fella actually got trampled to death at the Beijing West Station earlier this week.
We can only buy train tickets 5 days in advance here. The more I think about all the grief involved in travelling in China at the best of times staying at home seems like a pretty good idea.I think Spring Festival is going to replace Christmas as my least favourite holiday.

Dongguan is like a ghost town at this time of the year. I am staying put, no money but I do plan to do a lot of entertaining at home.

In 16 hours I will be settled into my hard sleeper planning on being there until half-way through Sunday headed for the deep southwest - Kunming, Xishuangbanna, Dali, Lijiang and then back through Chengdu. I've been told the crowds have cleared from the train stations - and certainly the bus shuttles that the university organised have stopped the last couple of days - all the students have gone home. From Sunday on I will be limited to net bars. Don't start anything exciting without me!!! Have a good holdiay all.
