Hey, George: That is exactly what my teacher always said, just after he hit us from behind.
Uber: My hometown top level judo guy is a man called John (aka Jack) Black. He is retired now, but a long time ago he was supposed to be the first westerner to take a title from the Japanese. He was pretty good by all accounts, and I KNOW his students are damn hot for judo players, although they seem to underestimate someone who will punch, like a boxer - damn stupid in my town, where some of the greatest boxers in Oz came from, but still.
Anyway, John Black represented Oz in the first Olympics with Judo in it, a great hopeful.
He apparently did really well, except against someone who was pretty unknown at the time, at least outside of his own country: a guy named Gene LaBelle, (LeBelle?), who got the gold, and made history.
Of course, this was long before my time.

Expect the unexpected!! I guess that is just paybacks for all the chicken abuse Mr. Nobody "a long time ago he was supposed to be the first westerner to take a title from the Japanese." As serious about there competitive martial arts, that is indeed an accomplishment.

Yeah. The trouble is separating the legend from fact. I got this from his students, and I heard about much of this elsewhere. He is in our local museum as a legendary sportsman from our area, but I forget which story I heard where. But he was very very good, I do know that. I think Gene was the only guy he is supposed to have lost to, which is no disgrace.
Well, my uni did them up in uni kendo a couple of years ago. First uni outside of Japan to win, ever. A sort of friend of mine lead and trained the team. (well, I knew him reasonably well in a professional sense for a few years a few years ago, and we got along well, but havent' seen him for ages) He now teaches at a uni in Japan, not English, something else. Has a PhD in Japanese culture and other scholarly quals. Nice guy, too, not an arrogant prick like many martial arts 'heroes'. Name's Rod something. I'll remember his family name about 3am.

Excuse me guys but were we not trying to help someone with a very serious problem such as setting up some sort of training centre at her local school i.e. summer holiday camp “God knows why anyone would want to walk down that road anyway is beyond me” But it can be done and should she Missi succeed in this venture I for one will applaud her. Missi, they tried this in Singapore and it went off with a very big bang i.e. very well and a lot of others schools followed suit, another company started doing this professionally and named themselves Adam Khoo training and have been operating for the last 7 years and are thinking of listing their company next year. These are just words of encouragement Missi, and I wish you well I really do but I must warn you this is one not Singapore and they love to attack westerners here, sorry girl it the simple truth and its because they think we don’t knows the rules and guess what WE DON’T and they know we don’t like open corruption we prefer to keep it under the table so they can say anything they like and you simply have no choice but too believe them. All in all Missi go for it I think it’s a great idea.

Jemair thanks for the vote. For the side track? I thought it was funny!!!! I love to see where a post will go.
I have a meet with the Head's of my school on Saturday, who I pretty much know will say, you tell us what we can do to help you. I've also got a meeting with the Educational People next week to figure out what I need to start doing.
The biggest problem I have right now, is that we have a temporary headmaster in the school, and he doesn't seem to want to make the big decissions. It was like twisting teeth to get my salary last month. That was only after I showed him the contract with the breach section. He signed his name right away. And because I planning for this next summer, we should have our new in place head by the decission time. My brother, I know would say, "If you plan on opening a training school you have to have free English lessons for teachers from our school". Which would be way too much fun as then the chemistry and politic teachers would all bring the bijiu.

I had my meeting with the school headmasters, and they siad if I plan and organize everything, we can run the summer school out of our school. The Educational people don't think I am serious right now, but they asked me to submit a plan on what I want to do in case I am set on organizing a training school. So the planning is underway, and so far its great trying to figure this all out.
My brother did say exactly what I thought he would. Only he wants a beginner class, a general and advanced class. I just said no problems.

I like my bosses but I feel like i am wading through quicksand sometimes. In Dongguan there are a lot of language centres opening up and I feel our company is falling behind. The biggest asset in a language centre are the teachers. Stable, hardworking solid lesson plans. Also we are the cheapest training centre here now, albeit the oldest. But that also carries a history when teachers m'kayup. I am thinking of getting more involved in the running of the company or just sit back and go along. But some things annoy me the books New Interchange at least we could get the current issues. But if I did go down that path and didn't make any more money than I am doing now what is the point and also having to control the FTs. Missi this is only a Summer camp and I am sure you are up to it but having to deal with the schoools will be a pain in the ass. Cut them a deal and say I will organise everything, you endorse it and I will give you 20 percent of the profit. Don't give them anymore than that. Start off at 10 percent

i had a serious talk to my boss yeasterday about the things i mentioned in my last post. He wants me to be the director of the foreign teachers department. This is a bit of a laugh at the moment we only have 3 teachers. I will be given an assistant and go around companies to get contracts but first I have to find some good stable part time teachers. We will pay 180RMB an hour and a driver will be provided Now this is where I would like some advice. He is offering me 5-10RMB an hour for each successfull contract. This means each hour the teachers that I place, I will get paid 5-10 RMB an hour. So if I place a teacher in a company and he/she works say 50 hours all up. I receive 500RMB. What do you think?

Depends on the numbers of course but if he is paying by the teaching hour for every hour your teachers teach it could get huge. 5 teachers teaching 20 hours per week is 1000 kuai so it really depends on what the maximum teachers/hours would fall under the plan......

Good point, I think I will do it because of today's success but I would like to have more control over how the teachers teach. If the teacher is doing a good job I will leave it alone but some people needto be directed and if they had the sense that they would actually appreciate good advice. A lot of people don't take kindly to that though. I need fresh loyal blood.

Good advice given diplomatically can be good. Sometimes advice sounds like serious criticism and it gets even a good listener's hackles up. I guess it depends on how you coach the teacher - same as how you coach a student - positive reinforcement works. I've never seen you in action, at least as a teacher. I have heard from Con you are awsome. A dynamo. That however may be intimidating to a teacher learning. I agree that many new teachers need a 'guiding hand'. (Just be gentle - except with George)

Totally agree with positive reinforcement DS. I rang up one of my foreign friends an American lady here in Dongguan I love talking to this women. She freelances as a teacher but her niche is teaching business writing and presentations. She charges 300RMB an hour but she is definitely worth it. A middle school rang up to ask her to teach, they pay 200 an hour she wanted 300 and she really wasn't interested , now I teach middle school and get 120 an hour should I ring the school and offer my services. I am rambling a bit, a bit of a hangover went out last night with the family and 2 SA friends to this great little outdoor Hunan restaurant opposite execution park . Tommy was attacked again by one of those feisty local cats, a cute little ginger kitten. He also tried to get in the pram with my grandson. One of the SA guys is Moslem and I was talking about the leader of his religion. now as I understand it Mohammed was married to an older business women who back him financially to start his religion am I right or am I right. He had never heard of this.
I went on to this new pub that has opened. Met a friend there great guy. but I wanted to dance so went to another pub full of filopinos and had a great time, Now it is morning I have a burn on my leg from the exhaust of a motorbike taxi . I slept in and missed my early morning class. I don't feel too bad about that because I have been doing this class for 5 months and this is the 3rd time I have missed it. Anyway I am off to Metro to do some serious food shopping.
