For a change, I've got a slight advantage compared to being in China. Tonight is the 200th Episode of SG-1 (comes on in less than 30 minutes), and I won't have to wait for 3-4 days for it to show up at the local video pirate store. "Pathetic Earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe, anything at all, you would have hidden from it in terror." - Ming the Merciless

Someone please refresh my failing memory about what happened at the end of Season 8 and I'll let you know how big the changes were (there have been quite a few over the last few seasons).
Episode 200 was hillarious. The SG writers are even more demented than I thought.

End of 8th season: SG-1 goes back to 3000BC to pick up ZTM. The ship of ancients is detected by the Jaffa due to the sand that covered clocked ship. They decide not to take any action... Few moments later you can see that future changed and the video camera is found in the ruins of Giza. All members of SG-1 are not what they are supposed to be because future was changed and original stargage isnt found because it was taken away by Ra. But there is a tablet that describes the second gate's location. Daniel, Sam and Jack are called in for a mission that they succeed: they turn Til'c against Apophis and successfuly escape to the past. Though they lose Daniel who became Goa'uld spy. In the past the bump into original Daniel and impliment the plan of the rebellion against Ra... SG-1 again. All is back to normal for the exception that they don't go back to future as the camera and ZTM are discovered in the ruins of Giza. They all end up fishing in Jack's pond that has no fish... Refreshed your memory enough? PS. I just finished watching it ;D

You people really need to get Season 9. Things have changed quite a bit. Col. Carter is no longer the only entry in the "hottest chick in SG-1" contest. Goa'uld are now only a minor threat (and compared to the current problem, would still be a minor threat even if they had all of their power back).

Do they do anything new or are they still scraping the bottom of the 50's short story collections?

EL! DONT SAY IT! KKP, remember where I grew up - we didn't have anything as thrilling as that. Even now the film industry sucks. Though Russia had good movies produced in the past and I enjoy watching them when I am back home. It's either these series in China or Brazilian sleasy soapies back in Russia. I choose the first!

Russia did some of Stanislav Lem's seminal stuff. He is bloody awesome, even though Polish. And Asimov was also Russian, although moved to USAnia at a young age, even before he first starting writing SF. I think he started publishing when he was about 3 months old, given that he published over 200 books and an unknown number of short stories.

Remember, Papa Asimov wrote the definitive set of Rules for Robots - which everyone and his brother have copied from ever since. And Dr. A's stories/books of mysteries and detectives tales are awesome!!

Yeah. Books. Classics... I grew up on classics both Russian and Western. But film industry? Still long way to go. Though I kinda liked the Nightwatch and then there is a soapie about a hand-reader: filmed badly, but the idea is really cool. Give it to Hollywood - they'd make one hell of block-buster out of it!

>EL! DONT SAY IT!
OK, I won't give away any significant details about Season 9. I will say that there are stand-alone episodes that are probably lifted from low-grade 50's SF short stories, but there's also a major, long-running story arc that continues into season 10 (and probably will be dragged out to 11 or 12).
>Remember, Papa Asimov wrote the definitive set of Rules for Robots - which everyone and his brother have copied from ever since.
There's an evil little short story from 1947 by Jack Williamson called "With Folded Hands." This story pretty much shows how perfectly following the 1st Law of Robotics would pretty much be the end of all human endeavors.
"His futile hands clenched and relaxed again, folded on his knees. There was nothing left to do." - Jack Williamson

SG-1 stands for Suzhou Guide #1. It's a very popular show about a tour guide in Suzhou who spends most of his time sitting around an expat's bar drinking too much baijiu. “I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me.” - Hunter S. Thompson

Laoban, While EL doesn't want to tell you about Star Gate which I somehow just quit watching long ago, I like his idea for a , er, ah, Middle Kingdom sit-com for expats, or "sumin'" I see a new thread EL. YOu start the storyboard.
