Some excellent points brought up here...
If you have access to a scanner, you can always scan Chinese characters and then post the resulting image here...like I did with the printer-ink thing.

Well the saga has ended and for once it's ended with a positive result for me. I am in possession of a reference letter which essentially says I am the greatest teacher they've ever seen and that they're rehire me in a New York minute.
Interesting how the battle raged for weeks and suddenly the phone rang and it's the FAO with a nice form with a red chop on it, they listed the contract ending date as August, never said I had broken the contract.
I think I finally just wore them down! Now my poor former colleagues are coming back after traveling to find the place infested with roaches in a BIIIIG way. We're not talking a few here, we're talking waves of them. Poor lil things. I wish them luck. (the colleagues not the roaches).
I appreciate all your kind words and helpful and factual assistance perhaps I can assist you guys some day. I'm certainly going to continue visiting. so much nicer than those "cafe-like" places if you know what I mean....

Hey DiDi, glad it all worked out for ya. And I do hope you'll keep coming to see us...it's been nice having you here. Your guess may be right. Sometimes much of the battle lies in simply being persistent, sticking to your guns, and not just going away. I'm starting to wonder what's gotten into those Changchun cockroaches. Maybe a leak at a local nuclear plant? We've now had a few reports of roaches run amok in Changchun... So here's to a new horizon for you, free of either 2- or 6-legged vermin.

Ah, it is no coincidence about the roaches...Digital Diva and I were coworkers, and in fact, I can corroborate everything that she said about the condition of the apartments. I have also had serious mold and mysterious diseases. Personally, I don't know why I am still here, except that some stupid part of me says, "Do it for the students!" and the more sensible part says, "You are going to become REALLY SICK if you don't get out of here soon."

Diva, I'm glad everything worked out for you and that the school did right by you.
Moderntime, does Diva's success with the school give you any sort of ammunition toward making your place livable? Can you insist on the school paying for a motel for you until your home is roach free? Seems like it should be their responsibility to give you a decent, roach free place to live.
