Well, there are always a few, isn't there? I just can't see some of these little emperors doing anything serious in their lives at all, let alone supporting someone else. They are too used to being looked after.

Heard today in the predominantly Chinese areas it is 50Y for cuddle and chat, more if you go upstairs. Not sure what it is in the tourist areas. In the tourist areas, rates will vary according to your choices as well as how classy the outfit itself is. If it's the standard one level street operation with pink glowing lights in the evening and the standard Santa Claus pasteboard cut outs hung out on the entrance and the walls, then expect to pay a little more than the Chinese clientele. Your choices can range from the basic pull and tug to the enter with caution (did I handle that well or what?). Prices can range beginning at the low end of these places from around 80 kuai to as much as 300 kuai--again depends on the gal and her ploy to charge foreign tax. Now, if it's the class joint, with a newly built look with lots of Chinese New Year decorations and a front desk with clerks, we're talking probably major kuai here. Nice showers, hot tubs, and massages that can and will range from the standard Hong Kong massage to the Thai massage. Also, twenty televisions, playing the same damn sappy pop videos, and fifty recliners in the lounge areas with fifty stand-up ashtrays Finally, of course, prices are steeper; we're talking major kuai here folks, and the gals are a major step up. Prices range from around 250 kuai to as high as a 1000 kuai--and yet, again depends on the gal and her need to charge foreign tax. The girls will go by numbers; some places will march them right out as you recuperate from your shower/massage on a recliner, and so you pick one, and head to a private room. Then, there's the private escort way--which tends to be interesting, depending on if you like to go blind into this cultural enigma, and hope for the best. Disclaimer: Birth control apparatus may not be provided; those are the ones you need to avoid. Major Warning: In the high class place, and even some of the low end places that try to be high class, you may find that your Chinese brethren will exercise anatomical curiosity concerning certain parts of your anatomy as well as performance--scowl at them, say something mildly in Chinese to denote anger, and smoke like a heathen dog and they may go away. Worse case scenario: a few Chinese brethren may exercise resentment and hostility to you, but money talks and the powers to be in such an establishment will probably tell them to shut up. Also, some gals will talk among themselves, rabidly about you--this could be good or bad. Whether you choose low class or high class, tourist areas or neighborhood hutong, variations and/exceptions--especially in hygeine and sanitation--can happen. Age of establishment can determine how spiffy the joint is. So, enter at your own risk, or better yet, at your own inebriation level. You may file this posting in the library for posterity. I know none of the preceding from personal experience. I only hope that I presented it well. That's all. Thank you.

200-300 in a tourist town. And if you go home, it's the same because the bars are usually right next to the hotels.
100 elsewhere, unless you go home: 200.
Someone told me.

Well, when I used to come to China on my regular 'business trips', a lot of the younger single masters used to go to karaoke. You get the same set up - a line of cute girls - choose the one you fancy. They would sing to you, get your beer and food, dance with you, hold hands, cuddle, maybe kiss a little, but no passion in the kiss more like pecks from a cousin or something, and no hanky panky. These were 'respectable' places, so any hanky panky was kept discrete I guess. A private room was included, free, and some munchies. You could also go to the public room for the band, or disco, depending. You didn't have to choose a girl. I usually didn't, but it made it hard to get beers etc. This would cost you your beers, which were cheap, and 100 Y for the girl if you chose one. But we were tourists, and the Chinese guys were from HK. Dunno what it was for the locals. The locals who came with us brought their girlfriends and/or wives, and paid nothing except for beer.
However, when you got beers, they would all try to make you drink a lot, and the matron would drink with you as well, etc. That pissed off the English. The Aussies laughed at people trying to drink them under the table. The HK Chinese could usually drink more too, but some of the matrons, man, they had stamina.
The girls could sing well, dance well, and were very friendly and pleasant and helpful. Few could speak English. "Can you use chopsticks" would be a major excursion into foreign language territory. They were mostly provincial uneducated country girls, often from out of the province.
Maybe this kind of place is rare, judging by the stories I hear on the net. But yeah, they weren't brothels.
Edit:
I remember now, they said what 'arrangements' the girls made for after work, was up to the girl. She could sleep with you for free, nor not, or charge, etc, but in 'respectable' places, money typically didn't change hands, or so I was told. Apparently a lot of country girls go there hoping to meet rich city boyfriends. It isn't exactly respectable, but not disrespectable either. These places weren't the tourist flashy ones. The city (Foshan, Guangdong) doesn't have much tourism other than day trips.

in luoyang, the price reportedly ranges from 20-600 yuan. higher in the tourist hotel 6th floor clubs.
when i first came to china i found enough college girls looking for the "interesting experience" to keep the wallet shut. i have since settled with a very sweet young woman in a legitimate profession, so it's no longer an issue.
the story i hear is that foreigners are always charged more than chinese men, because the girls charge by the inch.

Just to be a bit too blunt, everyone has their advantage, but on average, everyone is the same.
You guys? Seriously? You can walk around any school campus and find guys bigger, I mean taller, than you. Are you seriously saying you have an "Advantage"?
And by the way, oh yes, with my 3 inches I can , well, sometiimes make someone say hello.

it's the oldest trade in the world...
products are only supplied as long as there is a market for it.
so....can't see it changing...
In all honesty, if these women (or men for that matter) want to sell themselves to make an extra buck or two, well, good on them.
I did a study on the female role in prostitution and the sex industry while I was at uni. Came out with some interesting and surprising results....I guess many people have the assumption that the sex industry as a whole is mainly used by men..not necessarily true.
