Those guys in the first pic have some cousins up here in my town. Several, in fact. Whole gangs of them hang out on several corners in town.

Really like the old style houses. It's no wonder Chinese people don't like soft mattresses! I have some good photos of people sleeping soundly on cement at lunch time. Down tools, roll over and sleep! Today one of my Chinese mates told me he finds the jade carved pillows comfortable in summer!!
The most I do is use the bamboo mats on top of my bed and pillows to keep cool in summer - I still like the comfort underneath!

I can't even sit on the traditional lounges or chairs for more than about 30 minutes. Too hard.
