Our Forum exists to provide 2 functions for its members and guests:
1) A social community- a place to make friends, have fun, blow off steam, and generally try and hang on to sanity.
2) The provision of reasonably reliable (that's as good as it gets in China, kids) information about living and working and surviving in China.
To that end, here's how I see the structure of this place...a structure I'm trying hard to maintain.
Publick House: The place for general conversation. Anything goes. Banter away. Knock yourself out.
Going Gets Weird: The place to talk about living and working (including teaching) in China. You'll notice I've moved a number of non-China threads out of this area. A little banter is OK but the threads here should at least be given a fighting chance to stay on topic for a while. THIS IS THE PLACE TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT LIFE AND WORK IN CHINA!
The Library: The place for posting straight-up general information that might benefit a lot of people. A reference area. There should be no banter here. Posts should remain on-topic. Other than clearly designated areas for cities and schools, questions should be posted in Going Gets Weird.
Wankers Wanted and Photo Album: Self-explanatory, post jobs or pictures respectively. Like Going Gets Weird the jobs threads should at least be given a chance to stay on topic for a while. Banter is pretty much inevitable in the photo area.
General Board (full members only): The Upstairs version of the Publick House, with a restricted audience.
Whine and Roses (full members only): Admittedly maybe not much different than General Board. Created with the intention of encouraging you to craft great rants and say weird things in bursts of more than 8 words.
We have room for everything here, except trolls and abusive behavior.
