Hello, I wonder... I read today in an education supplement about students being sent to do stints teaching or helping in whatever way that's deemed useful in other schools. This prompted me to think: We all like to travel from time to time, don't we? We get a little bored in our jobs (mnjust like our students)...
Now, just imagine some English-speaking VIP arrived at your school: you could invite that person to class, sit down and LISTEN TO HIM/HER instead of delivering another (boring) lesson. Think of Canto-pop living legends, writers, journalists, artists, ...or some of our fellow teachers and their experiences. We could invite such people on tours to visit several schools to enliven the English corners, oral lessons, salons.
Of course, the students would need some preparatory lessons on the likely subject to be discussed. The invited person would have to be remunerated: how about a flat 400 or 500 a day plus travel allowances and accommodation? That's decent (though peanuts for a Hong Kong rockstar, but hey, they can do something for their "motherland' aAND for the furthering of the English language!). We would volunteer to visit schools too - let's say, one or two days per month. Our school frees us for that occasion, another pays - quite affordable, and for us, quite an incentive (I mean, 500 per gig is good money). What do you think?

It would certainly entertain the students. It might help if there is a motivational problem at your school. From my experiences at English corner, I wonder how much each indivdual student would learn from such an exercise. Then again, large classes are often a problem anyway.
It is a great way to make some sort of connection with the "outside world." If you really think you can swing it, then I say give it a try.
