I know, I know, the Saloon's about But folks in China travel about. What does everybody think about putting in some links to good info on the other Asian countries? How about a place out on the sidewalk for posts on travelling there?

Gee, I can't imagine why anyone would ever want to go anywhere else but here. More corruption than South America, more dogmatic fanaticism than the Middle East, more filthy squalor than The Subcontinent, more derisive snobbishness than Europe, more bureaucracy and inefficiency than Russia, more incomprehensible language and customs than Australia, more killer epidemics than Africa, more KFCs than North America...plus all the mind-bending weirdness that only East Asia can offer. I mean, why schlep around when you can get it all in one place?
But I suppose it couldn't hurt to visit the neighbors...how else will you ever know how good ya got it in China?
So yeah, if ya got an exceptional site with travel info for the countries around us, let's put 'er up!

Me too eventually, or maybe Vietnam. Someone (read: not me) needs to find and post some links.

The Babe and her Boss are heading off to Thailand next month. I've instructed her to do some careful research, in preparation for my trip there........someday!!

You can get a bus to Vietnam from Nanning. Does that help?

... So yeah, if ya got an exceptional site with travel info for the countries around us, let's put 'er up! wikitravel.org is a free worldwide travel guide. It is a wiki, so anyone can edit any page. Asian coverage is spotty. Decent stuff on Bangkok, Zhuhai, Yangshuo, ... but some areas (e.g. Shenzhen and Nanjing last I looked) very poor. Folk here might consider contributing. It is also worth checking if you are planning a trip.

The Thorntree forum from Lonely Planet has good up to date info on most areas. Only thing is that the lay-out of the forum is quite annoying, but you get quick answers to most of your questions about almost any place.
For info on Thailand or other places around there I might be able to help as well since I've been there a couple of times.

Agree with you DJ re Thorntree except there are a few trolls around the place and the mods tend to take a pretty laid back, hands off the controls, approach to running the forum.

There's a link to Lonely Planet, with a mention of Thorn Tree, already on the Links page.
I dunno...Wiki stuff can be great. I've gotten a lot of valuable info from Wikipedia even if I have to use a proxy server to get there now. But wiki is the folk music of information...and some of it is sublime and some is dreck. I trust the wiki things a bit like I would trust Wiki Airlines, where anyone can fly the plane for a while...I'm a bit cautious about it.
