Hey, I think this is where Dr. Gonzo used to teach! He was pretty happy there, it seemed...and the only other things I've ever seen make the man happy were gin and hookers. Might want to consider this one of you're in the market... Welcome, PLB...hope you'll post with us more!

Yes, I was there for 5 semesters; basically I had a good time and was treated well. I know the reason for the vacancies, and there's nothing suspicious or any blame to be doled out. A pretty good gig in a school that's working hard to up its profile, and that includes building a professional FT contingent.

For those of your shrewd enough to make connections, yes, this the same place that I advertised for earlier.
I removed my post because I thought I'd found two fantastic replacements.
Mental note for kiwi: don't even try to second guess the powers-that-be.
Despite that, this really is a great place to work. Really. Just don't try and break your contract early.

Kiwi, I note they now require a photo. Can I guess why? I found them an Indian teacher who did a great job.............certainly getter than some white native speakers I was embarrassed to be on the same faculty with. No names or nationalities but.

sorry to bring the spoon up but there is a thread on this school. OP suggested the place is dodgy BECAUSE they are paying so much. And saying be careful. and the usual "witty" replies...I'm not going to comment - trying to wean myself away from that dump-these days I just get angry reading the regulars there...
Anyway the hours are high but of course you get compensated. I'm not going to apply---I've had enough rejection for one month and one holiday season! I'll look for employment in Jan.

Dear Lager (love that name), If your email refers to Shanghai Dian Ji U., this campus is quite pretty and clean (certainly not a dump!), the hours are definitely not high (although the word 'high' is relative - is 24 hours/week high to you?), and the accommodations are spectacular.
I'm looking forward to considering qualified and positive candidates! cheers --

PLB, he's not calling your school a dump. He's referring to Dave's ESL Cafe- aka "The Greasy Spoon" or just "the spoon"- which definitely IS a dump.
The hours are a variable and personal call, I think...in some places 24/week isn't bad at all, and in other places it'll kill you. At least Lag indicated you'd get compensated for them...

Yes Lager, I had my first look at The Spoon for several months. It hasn't changed. Nate M. put the most sensible comment on there, with a link to a review I wrote re Dian Ji Da Xue [as it has become], and he got dumped on by some "old hands" for being a "newbie". At least he's a qualified, intelligent and open minded newbie, which is more than can be said for most contributers there. If you [and I'm not just talking Lager here] like the idea of a good salary, upmarket housing, and an EFL department that by recent accounts -and I have several contacts there - is moving towards professionalism, this place could be for you. If the thought of 24 hours [pretty standard for teachers in most places, unless you kid yourself that you're an academic] scares you, look elsewhere. I only did twenty four there once in 5 semesters. Mostly I was 20, once 16. Anyway, if you're getting 100 RMB an hour plus, you can't complain, and may even expect to work for your money!

Well, in some sense I think I had that one coming. I shot my mouth off without really knowing what that guy's true relationship to that school was, and it came around and bit me in the ass. Frankly, I still don't know what it is, because he's being cryptic as hell. Regardless of the nature of the school itself, it was kind of a stupid thing to say on my part.
