The school took on an Australian guy, but small town life doesn't agree with him. Don't get me wrong, it's lonely here for me too, and the dearth of opportunites to date is hard on me sometimes; but he can't handle it, and wandering around a quiet burg like this talking up the girls doesn't fly here. So I don't think he'll last here. I need to find him some job leads in a bigger city, where he can have a personal life apart from the fishbowl reality of teaching. Perhaps a summer gig: that way he can work immediately, and line up a job for the fall. Any ideas/leads/links?

There are loads of these in the Shanghai area right now...try That's Shanghai etc. at www.thatsmagazines.comSummer gigs are usually all too easy to find...there is a real shortage of foreign teachers gullible qualified enough to teach the horrible, horrible children you face for long hours.
