Have any of you guys ever noticed how the weather affects your "little darlings"?
As a veteran teacher, my bgf said, there are 3 conditions that make your job harder 1.

1 Full moon (and 1-2 days either side)
2 Just before/ just after major Holiday (especially if CANDY is involved)

Add the afternoon. Chinese kids have bellies full of rice and want to sleep and fart. Western kids have high blood sugar and chemical additives, and want to go crazy. I prefer the Chinese variant.

Rain drove my kindies bonkers by the afternoon. Heat didn't matter, since we were A/C'ed out the yinyang. Just before vacation they'd be a little hyper, but mainly we figured anything new we taught 'em would float out their ears over vacation. After vacation they were so keyed on catching up with each other I'd just incorporate "What did you do on vacation" into my first lesson and let them get it out of their system.
Moon phases? Hmm... can we all do a study from September on?

When the light is low outside, they get bored and listless. Fact of life. Low light levels are linked to depression and all sorts of stuff, mediated through the melatonin levels in the brain.
This gets really noticable on short winter days that are overcast. I usually do something more exciting and less like school to keep some of them awake.
Phases of the moon are also related to activity levels, or rather vice versa. Full moon means more light so more people are active at night for longer. Hence bars are full, and seemingly more crazy stuff happens. There is apparently no significance in the amount of "crazy" activity but there is of drunken behaviour and violence due to increased activity levels.
One would therefore suspect that overcast new moons in winter would therefore be nice nights for insomniacs.

On gloomy, grey and dreary days, you and your students will appreciate a shot of colour. Find your brightest, electric-coloured clothing and flaunt it for the class. These dark Winter days, are the ones to add your favourite (OmiGod!) Hawaiian shirt to your ensemble. It will brighten the gloom and (at the least) give your students a giggle. AM

Females - paint your nails and put a bit more make up than usual, let your hair down (if it's rather long than short) - kids get really mesmerized. Especially if the teacher's toe-nails are painted I noticed something about most of the kids I ever taught when they pass the line/reach the age of 4: the start playing with teacher's hair, play with teacher's fingers, touch teacher's face and kiss hands. It hit me few days ago: kids that I taught before and kids that I am currently teaching follow same or near same patterns in their behaviour. Oh and whole lot of them think it is FUN to kiss on the lips! (which I never allow of course!)

Just a general warning: when you teach kids from 2,5-4, beware males: kids express their love (Chinese kids by most) by spanking the teacher, bumping their little fists in the areas belowthebeltline. Some try to stick their fingers Godknowswhere. It goes away when they approach their 4th year of life.

No way - they have Daddy days at liberated kindies. And if He Ying is working different hours you could be the parent who does most of the kindy runs - including sitting in bean bags surrounded by the little blossoms reading them stories, half a dozen trying to crawl into your lap, with their sharp little elbows and knees!
I want photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The day before a major holiday is hell in senior middle school.Only the highest scoring classes give a rat's ass.I taught a class the day before labour day and I was looking at nothing but backs.I'm afraid it's my punishment for being the same way at that age.

It's a real pain to be able to relate to your students so well isn't it? Makes taking the moral high ground really difficult and makes getting stroppy at them impossible.
I completely relate to my students when they tell me they were busy and so didn't finish something - I do exactly the same to my Chinese teacher - and he is so patient with me!! Makes me feel guilty (especially when I know I spent a fair chunk of time reading the Forum!!) so I do try a little harder - until next time!
