...a George by any other name would still be a SCEPTIC! My name originated when, many years ago, I attended a function,half-cut, where I was asked for my name at the door. That was the first name that flashed through my head, off my tongue and onto the floor. There was free booze and food at this "do", so as the night wore on, so did I. I arrived home still wearing my new "name tag", and my flatmates have made me "wear" it ever since.......I have been "the Dreaded George" for 33 years. We have lost sight of "The Rat", but "the Pig", "Fat Albert" and I still keep in touch.
OK...let's hear it from you scruffs.

I was once labelled as a lotus-eater by one who was being less than charming, and after eating lotus root and seeds, decided that a) I enjoy my laid back life, and b) I liked eating lotus, so Lotus Eater it is!

*Sometimes, I use my real name, "Walter." I guess it's Germanic in origin & suggests Strength. So I've read.
*My dog's name is "Steffie." Had no control over that, my (ex) wife named her. When the ex & I separated, I got the dog, formerly her dog. Often, i notice, people who meet me & my dog will almost invariably remember Steffie's name, but not mine. Oh well, at least they got their priorities right!
--One day a girl, a teenager I believe, while we were out walking, told me my dog was cute & asked what was his name. When I said Steffie, there was a pause, she looked at Steffie, then me, Steffie again, back to me: "That's my name," she said. She left immeditately. She appeared not to be happy.
*"J-Pop," is a name I started using when I tried to register at a forum once, but Walter & Walt (I believe) was already taken. Being a fan of Japanese Pop Music, I decided on a whim, what the hey: J-Pop it is. I use/used this at Dave's.
*"Off-the-wall." Decided to use this on a whim, again. Well, actually a long time ago, this attractive female co-worker where I worked (as a bus boy) in Orlando, Florida, told me I had a had an original, sometimes bizarre, sense of humor. She said I was, definitely, at times "off-the-wall."
*"Bunski." My best friend early boyhood friend, Craig Williams, once shot me in the butt with a BB gun (very painful, but didn't break the skin). He thought it was hilarious, but never did it again--under threat of severe retribution.
--Later, when we were on the same Little League Baseball team, he told the other team members about the incident, shooting me in the "buns." So they all (including the coach) started calling me "Buns-ski."

'Raoul Duke'- "We were 5 miles out of Wuxi when the drugs began to take hold..." (MO's paraphrase; that's MO at the wheel in my avatar photo...) I'm a big fan of Hunter S. Thompson and his writings, especially Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I've used here and there off and on, and picked it sort of as a whim when I set up this forum. (Starting this forum was a bit like a teenager having sex for the first time- before i really knew what was happening, it WAS...) It is already a famous pseudonym (Thompson's in the Fear and Loathing books) and I've thought of changing it to a nickname, 'Randy Wang'...this is the basis of my Chinese name, Wang RenDi. And as has been suggested, it's also the dark force behind my nigh-due baby. This is to be my 3rd child; my Randy Wang has made me a slave.

Been a while since I read this. All I remember is the "behemoth Samoan attorney with a penchant for LSD and adrenalin glands..." Accurate? Jesus where did these bats come from??? Or was it lizards.?
Bats. Big hairy suckers, too. I was forced to swat at them with my steel ruler.

Those of you from the 'land that abounds in nature's gifts of beauty rich and rare.........and is girt by sea' will already know the meaning of my name 'Sandgropers'. But to enlighten the 'great unwashed' among you on the board ( that's the rest of you not lucky enough to come from Oz ) let me explain. Firstly, you'll notice the word is in the plural form because there are two of us; 'she who must be obeyed' and yours truly. Secondly, each state and territory in Oz has a colloquial name for its inhabitants. Those of us from Western Australia are called 'sandgropers'. You see......simple............there you have it ;D Cheers

My original handle, Minhang Oz, is highly unoriginal, based on my location and nationality. After I was dismissed from Daves, I was informed someone [jen? writerman?] was using the tag in an unpleasant way on a different forum, so I just went to MO, which forum buddies called me anyway, and added the Gonzo Journalist as, like Raoul, I'm a fan of Hunter S. Thompson. "Gonzo" refers to a school of journalism which is highly subjective and unresearched: perfect for forum participation!
ps Sandgropers, you didn't mention it's a fish.

. . . each state and territory in Oz has a colloquial name for its inhabitants. Those of us from Western Australia are called 'sandgropers'. You see......simple............there you have it ;D Cheers One of the things I really do like about Aussies, their tendency to muck around with the language! Makes for an interesting & lively variation on the Queen's English. OK. Bananabenders are Ozzies from NSW, yes? Why is that? I mean does it have to do with the type of weather (conducive to growing tropical-types of plants, veggies & fruits)? Any other regional-based OZ Identifications you would care to share with us, the un- and the semi-initiated? Come on, at least just one more.

No, bananabenders are from Queensland, which produces most of our tropical fruit. The "benders" part is a comment on their lack of cerebral acuity, though wOZ may not vouch for this. The idea is that bending bananas is all they're intellectually equipped for. But I dunno. Sounds difficult to me.

In South Australia, they are "Croweaters", in NSW, they are "Convicts", and in Victoria, we are "Very Nice People".

Actually, I did know that--at one time. ;D ;D ;D Thanks George: "Croweaters," and "Convicts." Now both of those sound typically OZwellian. But, Very Nice People? Fair Dinkum? (or, Dead Set!)

Anyone south of the Qld border is a mexican! They make regular forays north, either in 4 - wheel drives, trying to pretend that they have actually taken them off road (the really sad ones buy mud to splatter on the wheels and doors!) or wearing white uniforms and carrying a set of balls.
The ones wearing white make sure they are at the clubs for the free lunch and afternoon tea, then prior to heading back to their home on wheels, whip into the loos and 'borrow' a few rolls of toilet paper.
The ones in 4 - wheel drives congregate around the camping ground loos creating stories about the huge fish they just lost, or the terrible roads their vehicle negotiated without them spilling their thermoses.
Banana benders got their name from trying not to get bent with laughter listening to these loonies! The highest percentage of loo roll 'borrowers' come from Victoria.

So many aliases! Xiaoyu is my chinese name that i was given by my chinese teacher in university because she thought i was beautiful and smart.... therefore, small jade. my chinese mother calls me Lan Mao (lazy cat) because when i don't have to work i love to just laze around. Now for my english name(s). My real name means "manly" or "man-like". But most of my family calls me "blondebomber". It came from when I was little and my dad referred to me as being a "bomber" instead of a "bullet". Guess I was crazy as a child, too! xiaoyu

It has been reliably researched, and proven, that a Victorian who migrates to Queensland, raises the average IQ of both States!

G'day I'm a 'Canetoad Eater' which is what the 'Mexicans' also call us 'Bananabenders'. My old man's father was a bloody Victorian! Good bloke he was too by all reports but not too smart !!! cause if he was smart, he wouldn't have married the woman he did!! I only ever got to meet his wife (my dearly departed grandma Thompson) a few times when I was little bloke (probably about 5 or 6). so I cant agree with George ..... cause she was a f....in' bitch if anyone listened to my mother. Apparently she squandered a small fortune in her declining years so if she was so bloody smart how come she 'blew' so much of the family wealth wOZfromOZ is real original one for you all - 'Warren from Australia' ....maybe George is right!

To answer the original question...
My screen name didn't take much creativity. It's my name. The avatar is a little more creative, but it's just my name, too.
Diners are wonderful places, though, and so I'm proud to have a diner as my avatar.

hmmm, "roaming" 'cause I'm pretty aimless and it's a goal to aspire to - if you're roaming, hopefully you'll keep your eyes open and learn, experience, discover things by accident... "kiwi" because of the NZ connection - being born there. The "ball or arse-hole" thing at the bottom is from Not the Nine O'clock News. And my avatar tends to throw people off the gender scent. And remember, only Aussie was settled by convicts. NZ was settled by free-(wo)men.

The Crippler goes back to my amateur wrestling prowess in High school in Canada. I tended to get a little carried away at times and once or twice (accidently of course) broke a limb of my opponent. Later I was on a local pro tour for 18 months and adopted that name. It has stuck for 40 years. Before Chris Benoit was born.

I once taught a 90 minute class, including the 10 minute break outside smoking with the parents, then stood downstairs bidding adieu to all the students flowing out of their various classes; then walked into the office whereupon the headmaster pointed at my crotch. At first I thought my job description had taken a dramatic change for the worse. Nope, it was my fly, yawning wider than a cow giving birth. Thank God I wore underwear that day.
