..........Five Japanese students were given deportation orders and suspended jail terms for the manslaughter of a classmate who was thrown into the Brisbane River in a tragic stunt................
..........The mayor of New Zealand's largest city has chastised Asian immigrants for "filthy habits" such as spitting on footpaths, but yesterday said his comments were "not an anti-Asian thing".
Auckland Mayor John Banks said regional civic and business leaders had told him they were disgusted by immigrants, mainly from Asia, "using public pavements as handkerchiefs", The New Zealand Herald reported....
.........Hundreds of Sri Lankans settled in Victoria fear the Federal Government is about to forcibly return them to their war-torn homeland.
Among them is "Rani", who has lived in Australia with her husband and two children on bridging visas for 10 years.
They fled Sri Lanka to escape torture and detention. Three months ago, they were told that their work permits had been cancelled and that they no longer had proper visas..........

Can't fault the mayor for calling a spade a spade. If people want to practice their dirty disgusting habits in a place with high cleanliness standards, they've got to be willing to have their habits be called dirty and disgusting. I'm expected to learn and conform to basic cultural rules here. They've got to do the same there.
"When in Rome, do as at home" makes the Romans hate you. They may not be right for it, but that's what'll happen.
As for the other stuff, well, that's just wrong.

Is the mayor saying that not one pakeha or maori expectorates in the street or after a long session at the pub uses the side streets as a loo? I bet he hasn't looked at the 'drunk and disorderly', or 'indecent behaviour' stats the coppers keep!
Make his point re the behaviour not a section of the community.

I read that quote attributed to that NZ mayor verbatim, but I couldn't find anything offensive in the language used. As Steiner said: "A spade is a spade..." And the mayor didn't go that far, really...
As for Sri Lankan illegal immigrants aka refugees: The war is largely over, really, and refugees who only fled abroad due to war should return to help rebuild their country.
When I was in Europe, I had a chance of working in a so-called "asylum-seeker camp". It was open for Tamils only. I know their situation fairly well, but I can't blame their adversaries only for the mess they have in Sri Lanka. Anyway, their presene in that European country gave me a valuable opportunity to live with them on the same premises. And, while I never wished them any bad I must say: they should not be allowed to enjoy lifelong hospitality in other countries without having to adapt. Contributing funds to the Tamil separatists is not likely to ease their plight in the long run!
