I've just returned to the apartment for lunch after teaching all morning. During the morning recess/break I stepped from the classroom onto the balcony on the third floor and surveyed the scene that lay before me The sun was shining from a clear blue sky and sparkling on the Han River...............various boats lazily cruised along their way.............the birds were singing in the kapok tree which is just starting to burst into bloom......a gentle breeze was blowing ( fortunately not from the direction of the toilet block ;D ) One of the good days in China So................what's the view like from your classroom? Cheers

They're bulldozing the rice paddies, covering the low spots up with fill dirt, and running a big road through them. Your view is better.

I move between classrooms, most on the second floor. When it was raining the breeze and rain combined to blow the remainder of the leaves on the trees - drifting them onto the ground and wet road. Looked great for an Oz girl from the north who rarely gets to see bare trees, autumn foliage etc.
Looking forward to the spring when the leaves come out.
My 4th floor view if of an alley way between buildings.

You know those seductive English settings they have a juxtaposed with the Keats poem selections.
...... The ones with filtered sunlight setting up a comprehensive hetrogenious collection of clear and crisp shapes and colours on the flat road surfaces that have only just been swept clean.
Blend this with the mondo grass covered gardens interspaced with hedges, shrubs and flowers. Above this is a near continuous canopy of vegetative leaf growth which is truly marvellous to look out onto mid morning as the fog begins to make a serious attempt to free itself from the confines of our little enclave of Sino-botanical heaven. All my classes are on the first floor (er lou) so we look straight out into the well spaced gum trees.
Raoul'll tell you I'm wanking myself about this garden but it's dead set one of the best things about our college. I'll be using that setting a bit more now too as this f.......g cold abates.

No, there's no nice way to say this:
Of the three campuses I'm spread over all of their outlooks are over concrete, flat compressed soil, life-less skeletons of trees, out-door ping-pong tables, the ubiquious white tiled buildings, troops marching - on one campus (no poo).... It's grey, grey, grey and if there is green on them thar trees, it's grey too thanks to the dust.
Oh the joys of living too close to Beijing. This place screams INDUSTRY.
Did I mention the concrete?

I am on the 4th floor and my back balcony overlooks the rich bastard's villas and beyond that Qiu Feng mountain (a hill really) That has a huge red lantarn on top that lights up at night.

I want a lush green garden to look at. I'm insanely jealous of Sandgropers and wOZ. I arrived here in Nov and everything's been gray since then. The only green thing I've seen is the plastic Christmas tree I bought for 10Y and the veggies I get at the market. From the classroom windows I look upon a playing field consisting of asphalt basketball courts and hard packed dirt soccer field. Beyond that is the main (2 lane) road through town and gov't building beyond. From my flat I look upon other 5-6 storey buildings in a concrete jungle. We do have gardens in front of the building. Hard packed reddish clay at the moment. Maybe something will grow there come spring?? In the meantime, I bought some houseplants and haven't killed them, yet...

From my first (Ground) floor unit I look out on what used to be grass and trees, but a whole bunch of guys have dug up all the grass and created mounds of dirt, opened up the trenches that go around and through the patch. Have absolutely no idea of what they intend to do, but it makes for interesting watching and speculation. Also means I have to close my curtains when I am zapping between bathroom and bedroom! Hope they appreciate my underwear hung out on my little veranda to dry

My classroom overlooks a courtyard. The Chinglish dictionary defines COURTYARD as: (n) a large concrete slab covered in plastic bags and cigarette butts and surrounded by five-story apartment buildings, serving as a parking lot for buses and cruel, wealthy yuppie parents' luxury sedans; playground equipment consists of two basketball hoops and a gigantic pile of coal directly below the foreign teacher's bedroom window.
"Chinglish Dictionary" gives me a bitchin' idea....
